This morning we tried breakfast in the hotel. Third time lucky we thought, but no we were let down again. Yet more oddly placed foods for breakfast, but hey it filled us up.
This morning we were heading to Shànghăi Museum. We’d read good things about this place. Marcia gave us a little orientation tour whilst over this side of town also, to give us some ideas on what to do during the rest of the day.
We got to the museum and had to queue, which wasn’t a great start. Once in, we checked the place out. The highlight for me was on the top floor, with the traditional costume area. This was pretty impressive, and really interesting, but the other areas didn’t really do it for me. There were plenty of coins, and pots but it all looked the same after a while. A couple of other highlights were the examples of Chinese-style rooms with large beds and chairs, and also some of the drawings were pretty amazing. Other than that I didn’t rave too much about it. Perhaps I’ve been spoilt by my many visits to the British Museum and National Gallery in London.
From
here, some of us walked over to the underground shopping area, but this was also pretty unimpressive. Elli and Erlend left us to do some sightseeing, and so Dan, Steph, Ros and I went for lunch over at Mojo’s. This was definitely a place we definitely liked spending time at, it being Dan and I’s third visit in two days. The only downside with this place was that it was right on the busy East Nanjing Road, so although it was nice sitting outside people-watching, we did get bugged by street hasslers and people with no limbs begging for money.
After a lovely lunch, we decided to do a boat trip. Marcia had pointed out a good place during our orientation trip yesterday so we walked in that direction. We walked down to The Bund, and followed it down to the end, until we got to the place we should use. We paid for our tickets, but the next trip wasn’t going to be for an hour, so we walked back up and found some nice covered place on the embankment and had a nice, cold drink, and had a chat for a while.
Once it was time,
we walked back down and boarded our boat. It was a nice-sized boat, and we found a nice spot at the front, where there was a rail, so that we’d get uninterrupted views all the way. We got some nice photos, and it was really a nice trip down the Huangpu River, passing the Pudong district, and the old harbour area, where it all started for Shànghăi. It was a bit breezy at times, but it was well worth doing.
Once done, we walked back to the hotel, which was again a nice trip back too.
Back at the hotel, we all freshened up once more. It was our last group dinner tonight, so we had to make it a special night. After the night in Xī’ān, us four were really up for a special night out on the town hitting a club. But we had the group dinner first, and that was really nice again.
Marcia picked all the dishes for us, and as usual, she had chosen really well, with not a bad dish on the table. We also had group photos done too.
From here, we all went to for a few Tsing
Huangpu River Cruise
Steph, Rosanne, moi et Dan Tao’s at a nice outside, covered table bar area down East Nanjing Road. Everyone came along this time, as this was the last night together. We had a nice evening out.
Then it was time to go out clubbing. Vince and Lisa, and Georgia and Damon weren’t really up for a club, and neither was Erlend, but Elli came along with us, which was nice. Marcia wrote down directions for the girls to give to the taxi driver, and they would get us to where all the clubs were.
We found a nice looking place called MT3, which looked perfect. We got in no problem, and a waiter guy came and got our order for drinks. Now this was a great place. Again, the music was mostly European dance, and the guy mixing it up was DJ Yagami. We felt right at home here, and once more, we were the only Westerners in the club. We again, didn’t get any looks or stares, which was nice.
The girls managed to get some pics, before the guards stopped them. It was hard to believe no photos in the club, especially with how it is back in England’s clubs,
where it’s the norm to take photos (mostly drunken! LOL!). Still, as the saying all the way through our tour was ‘it’s not wrong, just different’.
Once we’d finished our drinks we hit the floor, and all enjoyed ourselves big time. The DJ was darn good.
After I’d say an hour or so though we left, as Elli wasn’t too comfortable in the place. It was a shame, but we didn’t want her not enjoying herself, so we tried to find another place. We found one but it was half-empty, as looked like it had only just opened. The music was a bit naff too, so we headed back to the hotel. It was a shame, but still.
On our return back, Georgia and Damon were with Erlend over the road in some eatery place, so Elli was back with her man. We went over to the food market and got some snacks, and ended up back in the girls’ room, reflecting on the day’s events, and just chilling. Georgia and Damon came up bearing gifts (i.e. a nice big bottle of ice cold beer for each of us). Good on you guys! So we just chilled
out and chatted into the early hours. I think we all got to sleep around 4am.
Luckily there was nothing planned for the next day, as the tour was officially over the next morning.
