The stunning view of New Town on Christmas Eve
Woke up this morning with a hangover. Ouch. Too much to drink at our party with Dragon, Melitze, Travis and Maulo last night. Outside the hum of cars roar and the squeal of scooter horns are like demon screams. This is hell. This is 7am on Christmas Day 2008.

Christmas Eve was fab! We wandered back to the Bund and at night the place was alive! The neon was hypnotic as ever and the view was spectacular! We hung there with the guys for a good half an hour just looking at vendors trying to sell their wares. In particular were the sparkler salesmen and women, who kept making absurd offers! We had '2 for 2RMB? 2 for 1RMB?' No! Then another appeared offering '5 for 2RMB? 5 for 1RMB?'

Then literally a moment later '1 for 10RMB?'

So here I am in an internet cafe on Christmas Day after going to the Shanghai Museum (typical of my luck and an apparent sign of the future I guess) and visiting the AMAZING Jade Buddha Temple, where of all things a MONK wished me and Andrew, who he recognised as being British, a Happy Christmas! A MONK at a BUDDHIST TEMPLE wishing us a Merry Christmas! Madness! And a really glowing way to end what a visit to an impossibly impolite country with just a short sentence.

Faith in humanity restored a
