On Friday, 5-15, we were driven to Suzhou in about 1 1/2 hours. Suzhou is a much bigger city than Nanqiao, and is more modern but also has many more traditional Chinese sights. We went through some countryside on the way, there were many farms and greenhouses along the side of the freeway. This entry will be about Friday. We went first to Tyco China where Jim used to spent much time. It had been ... Read Full Entry

suzhou pictures
All the streets and sidewalks look so clean! Not a bit of litter in sight. I wonder if they were swept and scrubbed for their holiday, or if they are always that way.

Memories!
Oh, the memories all these pictures bring back. I had to laugh at your comment about how much the Chinese can fit on a bike - wait till you see what they can get on one of their cows (I can't remember if they are water buffalos). What a great weekend! You are certainly making the most of your time there.

Lots of workers
I think they are always that way, there are workers everywhere. It is all much cleaner than I expected and beautifully landscaped! Groups of older ladies working on gardens all over. When you go into a store, there are clerks standing everywhere too, sometimes 4 in a group - no shortage of help - if only they spoke English!

family transportation
I don't know that I'll have a chance to see a cow/water buffalo or whatever in the city! But, why do we in America think we need a minivan to transport a family when they fit a family of 4 on a bicycle???????
