A few days ago two girls from an advanced English class that we are sharing took us out to a historic site here in Linyi. It's a rebuilt version of the grounds that belonged to a famous and rich Calligrapher that lived 1000 years ago. The grounds most likely dont resemble much of what they used to be, but it was still very beautiful and old looking.... and there was grass. During our journey through the site we met an artist who lives in Linyi. The girls let us know that he is quite famous in China, and even has art in the Great Hall in Beijing, and in galleries around the world. (Including Vancouver) Because we are foreigners the man invited us into the building in which he was being interviewed for a local paper and then decided to make us a painting! It was a simple water painting of bamboo that turned out really cool. He also showed some pictures of his featured art around the world, while we had tea. He told us the painting he made for us he would usually charge 10,000 RMB, or about $1500 CDN! The girls we were with told us that we
were very lucky to even meet him... not that we even know how to pronounce his name correctly... ha! We attatched some pictures of the very very hot day along with a Catholic Church we stumbled across.
