My studio
The studio before clearing up So this weekend has been a little busy to say the least...
Friday was an extremely long day of giving 70 English oral tests to my students. Starting at 8am, I didn’t finish up until 4.30pm!
I decided to give job interviews as their final exam so luckily I heard some interesting replies, which I guess kept me going through my 8+ hour onslaught.
One example was an English teacher interview, where my student started explaining to me why she wanted to teach. This I found out was mainly due to being influenced by her mother who is a teacher, but what I didn’t expect was her telling me that she used to physically “beat up” her mother’s students because she thought they were “stealing” her mother from her. So I guess I’m not sure how suitable a teacher she’d really be!
So after my VERY LONG day, I pretty much crashed and went to bed early.
Saturday involved me seriously starting to pack up my room so that I’ll be ready to leave this week. I really don’t know how I’ve accumulated so much ‘stuff’. Where do hair bobbles, bits of paper, pens, cds &
Snake!
The snake found at the studio the sort all come from? Honestly. My “anything & everything" drawer is such an irritating thing to organise. How many packets of tissues does one need and what do I do with them now I’m leaving?! Do I throw them away, just leave them…aargh!
Then that afternoon was spent with one of my students who wanted to see some of my photos and in the evening a few of us headed out to Chang He factory area for some street food snacks.
Sunday was hot. Like 35°C + hot. And I had decided to clear out my studio…Now with the heat comes all the lovely creepy crawlies and the mosquitoes and the …SNAKES. Yes, today our gatekeeper caught the THIRD snake in about two weeks that we’ve had at our studios. I’m not sure how poisonous this one is (I don’t want to know) but two of the ones we did catch prior to this were 5 step snakes. The saying goes that after being bitten by this snake, you have about 5 steps before falling to your fateful death. Nice. But as I said, this one hopefully isn’t so nothing to worry about I guess?! Eek!
Now
Centi-horrible-pede
Found in the studio snakes were not my only worry on Sunday. As I was moving a box in my studio I suddenly felt something run across my hand….(Now I remind you that I had just seen the snake)…so after making a distict “yelp” sound I slowly lifted the lid of the box to where the thing had hidden itself. It was a huge long-legged disgusting-a-pede (or centipede). Anyway, I just left it for a while and let it disappear so that it would cease being in my knowledgeable sight as I picked up the box and moved it to the corner where it wont need to be touched for a few months…fingers crossed it doesn’t start breeding..eurgh!
So after successfully clearing the studio, which I thought would take me 2 days to do, I have now boxed up my work and tools ready to be re-opened/shipped/etc after I return from my travels. Job done.
Heading back to my room for a well needed shower, I then quickly got ready to meet up with a group mutual friends of Kim, Brad, Merkel & myself as all of us are leaving this week. The beer flowed from the pitchers and the night went
Centi-horrible-pede
Found in the studio pretty well for Jingdezhen standards with plenty of fun & laughter and a few emotional tears shed. It’s strange how quickly time has passed here, yet at times it has felt like a decade has gone by…
And today has been a good day of packing and cleaning my room. With a lovely homemade lunch in my friend Lulu’s room with her sister, Betty and Brad & Kim, then dinner at a yummy Korean BBQ with some work colleagues.
So till my next post…
