This was a rough week for me. I had to make up all my classes that I missed after Ava’s surgery plus a few that I missed due to a misunderstanding between myself and my co-teacher. I also had to teach my regular classes and fulfill all of my regular obligations. So, Sunday was my only free day this week. Ava and I woke up later than usual and took our time eating breakfast. It was sunny outside but also quite windy. I suggested that we should take our electric bicycle out for a spin and Ava agreed.
We rode near the bridge into the city of Nanchang and I found an entrance to the trails along the river that I always see when we go over the bridge. I have wanted to investigate the trails for a while now, so we were both excited. There was a stand outside the entrance that sold a lot of little toys. Ava still had 10 Yuan from her allowance and decided to get a long, rainbow-colored streamer. To see Ava running with the streamer, click on this link:

really pretty. There are a lot of little ponds on one side with islands and bridges. It’s a perfect picnic spot and I think Ava and I will come here a lot when it starts to warm up next spring. As we rode through, students in bicycles shouted “Hello,” “Where are you from?” and “You’re beautiful!” to us with gusto. Whenever we stopped, people asked to have Ava’s picture. To see the video I took of this, click on this link:
https://vimeo.com/79082141 Ava was really excited when she saw some paddle boats. Like me, she’s a total water baby and loves boats. Unfortunately, they told us that it was too windy to take the boats out. Ava was really upset so I suggested that we get some Dairy Queen. There is a new shopping center that opened up with Carrefour (where I buy all my meat), H&M, CC&DD, Dairy Queen, and many other stores and restaurants. Ava and I both love our ice cream! While we were eating, a bunch of people dressed as characters walked by. I even say Hello Kitty… run into a light pole! It was kind of funny. They were there for the
grand opening of the shopping center.
After ice cream, we took an elevator to the rooftop. There was a little playground and a cute little pond and some random plastic panda bears. We would have stayed up there for a while, but the sun was going down and it was getting cold. The wind was also worse than when we left. So, we started to make our way to Carrefour to pick up a few things before heading home.
That was when we saw the balloon amusement park. There was a Ferris wheel, carousel, roller coaster and bumper boats all made of balloons! While we waited in line to see it, some girls tried to practice their English with Ava and talked them into posing for more pictures with them. Ava thought the little amusement park was really neat. It was pretty creative.
Finally, we made our way to Carrefour. Unfortunately, it was so crowded that I didn’t want to shop there. So, we fought the wind home. I made some hot cocoa from some Swiss Miss that I bought a month ago and we relaxed and watched the Wonder Pets.
It was a nice day full of new things and new scenery. We will definitely go back to the waterfront when it warms up again.
