I will be publishing fairly frequently from now on, otherwise my adventure will be over before you get ... Read Full Entry

I love to just walk around town and observe what's happening in this ever-changing city. Here there's a small enclave of traditional houses that have resisted the developer's demolition ball. At least so far.....

A surprise find in the backstreets of Taizhou- A Catholic church. Apparently Catholic missionaries have had an association with Taizhou since at least the 1930's. This church recently had an overhaul and has a very active parish, apparently. It is close by one of the new large classic garden developments. Such a contrast in cultures so close together.

One of the new developments not quite finished yet. Hans and I manage to slip in.........

Here Hans poses near the bamboo garden and one of the many inscribed stone structures that are an essential ingredient in any classical Chinese garden.

Meet my friend Mary whom I met at our Saturday night English Corner. Mary's brother is manager of this project, so I was given the opportunity to visit this lovely place a couple of weeks after Hans and I had wandered in. This time I had a more extensive look.

Traditional boats wait to ply their trade across to the other side of the river where another park complex is also being developed. The idea is to reproduce the parks and pavilions as they were in ancient times. It will look so good when it's finished.

Hans admires this giant etching of traditional flowers. Upstairs is a great exhibition of artwork created over time by a number of famous locals.

We did have a wonderful spring-semester 2008..
Thanks for your wonderful photos of our last semester together. Those who are hiding at home, in front of their TV, don't really know what they are missing in this wonderful city of Taizhou. So glad we had these two years together, and your students often ask about you. The photos will be lasting memories of special moments, and words are not enough to describe the emotions of the moments. I wish you continued joy on your great adventure, and please stay safe. Thinking of you often, and thanks for being such a good friend, always, Hans

I can't believe it's been two years since you first asked all those questions!! I'm ecstatic you had such a wonderful experience and are left with a lot of wonderful memories. I told you the students would be great!! Still a lot of years left under the belt yet, Sue... the world's a big place.
