Feel good about entering back into Guangxi region, reasonable accomodation and...better foods...at least for me! Weather was great so far in Sanjiang until...the day before my target...the Gehui Festival in Tangchao village, darkening sky and powder rain, I almost gave up going to Tangchao today as there was rain the whole night, the raindrops hitting on my window really bothered me all through my in and out sleep. anyways...it does stop by morning. I came a long way here and wait already for 3 days..."should I stay in bed or go" I asked myself. still...there are more conditions to be consider...Tangchao couldn't reach by public transportion, mean...need to looking for connection somewhere along the route and I had no idea about the traveling time that needed. anyways...I talked myself out of bed and pushed my way to the bus station. "next bus is 12 noon" announced out from the ticket counter and the girl switch her attention right back on to her faked ipad. what the fxxk!!! there were hourly bus listed on the timetable! what can you do...this is China!!! well...need no excuses to heading back to the hotel I guess. But there was a minibus with a tiny sign
"Dudong" on the side of its window that caught my eye when I was back in the street. well...seem like hope are not dead yet, after confirmed with driver and he assured me that he will drop me off at the junction for connection to Tangchao village, where I stood on 90 mins later. yes...many motorbike pass by loaded with 2 or 3 passengers, soon I hop on one myself, the helmeted driver asked for 20 yuan behind the blur plastic screen as he said the road was very bad which really troubled me...motorbike on a bad muddy road...ahhhaa! he did drive very slow and I was please, the trail was muddy and on most of the uphill drive I need to got off and walk, in the 9km journey I guess I did more than one km by foot and rewarded with a pair of muds infected shoes and dirty trousers leg! finally I entered Tangchao village by noon, Tongchao is inhabited by Dong people that was surrounded by greeny landscapes, I could see many rocks laced footpath leading to other villages in different directions, and on my way up here I saw a very pretty wooden bridge hidden
down in the bottom of the valley, the scenery are indeed very nice here. I had not much info about this festival and what sort of events I would see there, but surprised locals urged me forward "bullfight already started, go...!" then I find out I was actually the only tourist there with an object look like a real camera. the fighting ground set on an enpty field, villagers already weilded on their spot cheering to the Fighters, only fled without any second thought when the beasts running their direction. and then gathering back like magnet. repeat and repeat, said the fight will last until evening, "more bull is coming" a local told me. back into village center by the drum tower and the opera stage, supposed opera and lusheng dance will begin around 2pm but still nothing happened by 4, sky turn murky and seem like it gonna cry. actually main event are all set for the evening, singing, unique dong opera and dance...but...if I was nearing the deadline for last departure, it would be more difficult once the rain started. ok...perhaps will come back again next time and hope for better weather, anyways...seen most of the thing I
expected and it was great. but I wouldn't allowed to leave until I at least ate a meal in one of the family, and it turn out with chicken, duck, fish, goat, pork, all are meat!!! and it was very tasty, especially the raw fish! yum yum!!!
Mianpo Gehui is an gathering event in between Harvast and plantation season, a free labour period where young people do dating and have fun, so every 15th of Lunar September, villager will held this festival in Tangchao village, young people will spend their time in bush area call the Mianpo during the day, and older folks organised bullfight to entertain themselve in order not to get in the way of the youngters. and all got back together in the evening and do singing and dance in the village. Gehui mean singing gathering, and the Dong singing has its unique style.
