There is so much drama here. Most of it would seem senseless to anyone outside of the Expertise and Venus circles here in Beijing. And I'm sure I'll write a long rant at some point. But suffice it to say that despite the fact that I gave my notice MONTHS ago and said that my last day would be Friday 23 March.... shit has hit the fan like a dozen times since then and it turns out that tomorrow is my last day teaching at Venus Kindergarten.
Long story, but I'm fine with this now. After the initial two days of madness when they suddenly told me that my last day was Friday 2nd and I flipped my shit because I had no time to say goodbye to my babies.... Beyond those two agonizing days, I have just been teaching and kind of just waiting for them to tell me about my last day. Class this afternoon? Class schmass! I'm going to go party with my two and three year olds and tell them that it's my last day with them!

one class of my two year olds eating lunch And the funny part is that the teacher who they all think is taking my place, Saul , hates my boss and has refused to work for Venus Kindergarten. So they're throwing me out tomorrow but they're not going to have anyone to replace me for a while. I'm contemplating what my reponse will be if they deign to ask me to come back for the next couple of weeks..... but I don't think this is really an issue because asking me to come back would constitute a MAJOR loss of face - and that's a big thing here in China, the losing of one's face. haha.
And so today my boss/liason from Expertise told me that tomorrow is my last day and they'll "try and find me another school to work at until the 23rd," and I was like, "Michelle? Listen to me. Are you listening to me? If there's not another school for me to teach in, THAT'S OKAY. I DO NOT WANT to start teaching in a new school for a mere TWO WEEKS. If tomorrow is my last day at Venus, I am perfectly okay with it being MY

kids around the world are all the same! LAST DAY OF WORK IN CHINA." I feel like that was pretty clear.
But who the hell knows. Time to get back and hug my babies! Uh... I mean "have class" .

I bought this movie "Yi Yi" months ago but hadn't watched it yet. It's a film by Edward Yang and takes place in Taipei and in Tokyo. It was super long, nearly three hours at 178 minutes, but it was worth it. Seemed slow at times, but really the characters are very well developed. The story follows a modern day family in Taipei . It starts with a wedding and ends with a funeral. The father, NJ, is a hardworking businessman with a quiet demeanor. His wife, Min Min, is frustrated with life and goes off to join a monestary for most of the movie. Ting-Ting, the teenage daughter, is learning about love and friendship. And the little boy, Yang Yang, has big questions about life that the adults have a hard time answering. It takes a very slow and intense look at life and if you have 3 hours to sit and watch a beautifully

put them in front of a camera, and 4 year olds will act the same all over the world! shot drama, definitely check it out. It'll be a while before I have the stamina to watch it again, but I'm glad I picked it off the shelf.
In other news, yesterday was my last day of work. Now I have two weeks to .... do something? Write? Pack? And then Clo arrives and I get to share Beijing and China for 10 days, and then I fly home! And then the madness will begin in earnest...
