Heading Into the Darkness
These little kids came canoeing by our dock late at night so Warner asked them for a ride Ok ok so we all know plans never work out in S.E. Asia. I must have been stupid for thinking I could plan anything a day or two in advance. I really should have known better. Oh well, another lesson learned.
So a few days ago I leave Sihanoukville, Warner decides to stay down there for another day when I leave. He mentions that he is just going to follow some other friends that we met, and leave the next day on a bus to Siam Reap. Then I believe he was supposed to continue to Bangkok a day or two later. I went to Phnom Penh as planned and stayed overnight. I was still a bit undecisive about where I was going to go once I flew to Kuala Lumpur. I had been thinking that I did not want to head back to Thailand and I was thinking about giving Malaysia another go. I finally decided, about 10 minutes before I left for the airport, that I was going to go to Palau Pangkor. It is a small island of the west coast of Penninsular Malaysia. I believe it is only a five hour bus ride from KL and

finding out about the hindu statues a one hour ferry ride.
I get to the airport in Phnom Penh, actually early for once I had an hour until my flight time, and the flight has been delayed 2 hours. Thats cool I'll just hang out at the airport and catch a later bus out of KL. Now, from my understanding, the last bus headiing to Palau Pangkor leaves at 9pm. So I am still ok. If we leave two hours late I should arrive with about 45 minutes to catch the bus. About 10 minutes before the two hours are up the flight time is delayed another three hours. Now that does not work. If I still take the flight I will be stuck in KL for a night, a place I am not particularly fond of and that is kind of expensive. I decide to try and talk to the one airasia employee they have working at the airport to see if they can just put me on another flight in a day or two. She tells me they only do that if the flight is delayed at leat six hours. Gee thanks. So I am sitting there thinking to myself that I would
Watching the sunset
Not a bad place to eat dinner much rather spend a night in Phnom Penh (where my room is $2 and clean along with a great guesthouse lounge area over the water with beautiful weather) than KL (where it is dirty, hot, and expensive). I decide to just eat the price of the ticket and stay in Phnom Penh a few more days to explore. I have of course sent an e-mail to the company enquiring about getting put on standby for another flight that is not full.
So anyways I leave the airport and head back to my nice guesthouse. I walk in the door and I see Warner and our other friends sitting there. Appearantly there plans changed as well and they decided to spend some time in Phnom Penh before heading to Siam Reap. Its strange how these things happen in S.E. Asia. It is not uncommon to see somebody in Thailand or Malaysia and then run into them again in Cambodia or Vietnam. So now here I am back in Phnom Penh exploring the city with Warner and some other friends.
We went for a long walk two days ago and saw the royal palace and some cool temples. One of
Cambodian Payphone
A lady sits there all day and charges you 300 riel minute for local calls. See the gas pump in the back? the temples we were in had Hindu statues and we started talking to a monk about why a buddhist temple would have statues of Hindu gods. He explained to us that many Cambodians used to practice hinduism and it is basically a reminder or the past as well as a sign of respect for the Hindu religion. Yesterday we walked around town a bit more and found some more cool stautes and monuments. Then we sat by the lake to watch a beautiful sunset while we ate dinner. Sometimes it is nice to relax in one place for a few days. You really get a lot more of a chance to explore the city and see what is really going on. You also get a sense of home staying somewhere for a few days after you are constantly on the move.
So today we are doing one of three things. We are either going to a nice hotel and are going to pay to use their pool, or we are going to go to the water park, or we may borrow this little wooden boat from some kids (more like rent) and paddle around the lake all day. Who
knows, what we do know is not to plany on any one thing becuse it just won't work out that way.

Beautiful Sunset
I was just looking at the sunset out my window when later that morning I began to read your blog. I guess we take where we live for granted. Thank you for reminding me that I used to go to the beach in the morning and watch the sunset . I am heading out to our beach on Tuesday and to see how beautiful my world is. The world is a beautiful place and it is up to your generation to see that it remains that way. Our generation has allowed it to get all screwed up...I hope that you kids can now fix it! Sorry for the big job but for the safety of all animals, see what all the kids in all the countries can do about this mess. I know that you care about the world around you but could you recruit anymore caring people while on this trip? Great pictures and now give Warner a hug for me. Hi Warner. Be safe, be happy and I can't wait to see you. Love MOM Yes Ronnie , I do read this and write to him.
