Lots to see at Angkor Wat Archeological Park
Hi kids! If you’d like to see pictures of some of the most amazing temples in southeast Asia, then you’re going to like where I was. For 3 days, we visited Angkor Wat Archeological Park which is home to one of the most famous temples in the world, Angkor Wat. Nate and Jessie each rented a bicycle to ride out and do some exploring. I was so happy to find out that monkeys get in for free! Sweet! The Park is made up of multiple temples to see, but Angkor Wat was first on the list. It was a little crazy to have kids coming up to us as soon as we parked our bikes trying to sell us water, food, bracelets, books, and postcards too. You wouldn’t believe how many kids there were trying to sell us stuff. We even had a little boy try to sell us a snaked that he caught. What am I going to do with a snake…let it live in Nate or Jessie’s backpack? There’s no way I’m sleeping with a snake on the loose, even if he doesn’t eat monkeys. I was having a lot of
fun right away jumping and climbing around Angkor Wat. The statues and carvings were so cool! The only bad part was how hot it was outside. Nate looked like he just jumped in a pool by the time we made it to the 2nd temple. Bayon was one of my favorites. Everywhere you looked you could see giant carvings of faces in the stone, and some of the faces were bigger than Nate! I couldn’t help but think of how funny I would look if I had the same body I have now but my face was as big is that! I’d look like a funny cartoon! One of the other temples I liked a lot was Tha Prohm. If you’ve ever seen Lara Croft Tombraider, the movie, this is the temple they filmed the movie at. There were giant tree roots growing over a lot of the walls and some of the trees were even growing on TOP of the walls. Isn’t that crazy? Everyone was taking lots of pictures here, too. At one point during the day, Nate and Jessie were in the mood for a snack and bought a pineapple. The lady they got it from carved
it so looked like the pineapple was a giant spiral. I had never seen that before coming to southeast Asia. It was delicious! As we continued on our way, we passed a spot full of my relatives…more monkeys! There were a bunch of baby monkeys eating food that the people were feeding them. You can imagine how excited I was to see some monkeys again. I almost forgot I had to speak monkey language with them. When I started to speak English, they just scratched their heads and looked confused. After visiting with some newly made friends, we kept making our way to different temples, taking picture after picture of everything we could. At Bantaey Kdei, we saw a lady kneeling down next to a Buddha shrine. Nate and Jessie gave a small donation, so she had them kneel down to say a prayer for them. Then she tied a red string around their wrists for good health, good luck, and a happy new year! The Cambodian new year is in April instead of the first day in January, and they actually celebrate it for 3 whole days! At night, after visiting many temples, we all cooled down by enjoying
a fresh banana shake. Make sure you take a look at how they shave the ice for the shakes. Not many people have freezers to make ice cubes, so they have to buy a big block of ice and shave off whatever they need to make the shakes. They’re so good! I just can’t get enough! As we were sipping on our shakes, I looked over and Jessie and said, “Boy, my legs sure are tired after biking for 2 full days! Hahaha!!” I couldn’t help myself. I just HAD to give them a hard time! On the last day, we got up really early to see the sunrise at Angkor Wat. I was so tired that I didn’t even wake up when we left. Nate just scooped me up off the bed and carried me there. When I woke up, I was expecting to be in bed, but instead I was woken up by the bumpy tuk-tuk ride. At first I thought to myself, whoooah it’s an earthquake…nope, just a tuk-tuk. Even though it was really early, I was glad we got up to see the sunrise. We only went to 2 more temples after that before heading back
home to get yet another banana shake. Hey, I’m a monkey! I’m not complaining! Any time you guys want to get a banana shake is ok with me. I hope everyone enjoys the pictures and video of me at one of the temples! See you again soon!
