Aussie Girls
2 of the 3 girls we met yesterday night at Temple Club. The hot one is Ella, and her friend is Danny. The weather is killing me, the local food isn't anything to get excited about, but the PEOPLE just blow me away. Everyone here is genuinely nice, completely unlike anything in Thailand let alone Singapore.
Obviously, poverty is a serious problem here in Cambodia so there are young kids running the streets selling all sorts of stuff. Yesterday, after brushing off several of them, we met this young kid who claims he's 14.. you be the judge of that. He asked us to buy some very lovely postcards of Angkor Wat, $2 for a small folder of 10. We instinctively said no, but after that he just followed us around and we began chatting - how's school, how old is he, do we have girlfriends, blah blah. We were searching around for better accommodation and he kept following us all over the place. When we finally found our hotel, I bought his postcards and you should have seen the huge smile BEAM across his face. Such a nice kid. And today while sipping bubble tea in a nice cafe, he spotted us, came in, and gave us a postcard! Click on the picture to see what he wrote. Awww... heartmelt! Yup,
My buddy
That's Sna, the cool kid I was talking about. Speaks incredible English. so that's my first Cambodian friend, Sna.
Siemreap has been fantastic, and to be honest, this is probably because we've been treating ourselves pretty well. Checked into a slightly more expensive place today called Popular Guesthouse. Huge airconditioned rooms, 66 channels of cable and our own bathroom! I feel like a king!
The nightlife here is really chill. There are tons of bars all over the place but you'd be lucky to catch a single person dancing here. In spite of this, we ran into a group of 3 aussie girls in Temple Bar and we were dancing the night away. Real good fun! Gonna meet them again tonight.. looks like we found dates for Valentines day after all. haha.
Yup, tomorrow we start our spiritual journey of Angkor Wat. I'm pretty excited.
