Koh Ker was briefly the capital of Cambodia during the 10th century. It was mainly inaccesible until several years ago when a new tollroad was built. Our guide, Mr Ouk Sophearin told us that the Cambodian people were very proud of the road when it was built. Hard to fathom a road could cause such nationalistic sentiment. The Prang, also called Prasat Kompeng, is a 7 level sandstone pyramid 40 metres high. It was supposed to be Jayavarman IV's state temple but was never completed.

Apparently they have stopped people climbing up to the top now.

Behind the Pyramid is a man-made hill which you can climb to the top of.

It's a short easy walk up to the top...well for some anyway.

The mossies at the top are vicious. There's not much of a view at the top either.

We thought it was a bit amusing that this girl was running around the place with a knife in her hand, using it to cut her own apple.

You feel a tad nervous walking into the bush to get a closer photo of the signs.

CMAC (Cambodian Mine Action Centre) are still actively clearing mines around Koh Ker.

I guess it's only a matter of time before Koh Ker becomes another Angkor Wat, overpriced and overrun with tourists.

It will be interesting to see what this photo will look like in 10 years with construction going on currently including the first hotel in the area.

We asked the driver to stop along the way so we could take some pictures of the countryside. He insisted we stop to see how people wash themselves in the country. I'd say it's not everyday you're taking a bath and a group of people storm in and start taking photos of you.
