After a first night in the country I wake up to a gloomy and cold Thimphu. Packs of dogs did their best to keep me awake during the night, but will have to try better if they wish to succeed. Spot the Wangdue Phodrang dzong on the far hill.

Built only last year they have helped tremendously in subduing the evil forces threatening this place. The houses of Wangdi can be seen at the hilltop, the road to Lobesa just beneath.

Legend has it that four ravens were seen flying from this hill in different directions, a highly auspicious sign and that is how the location of the dzong was chosen.

Notice how the top floor does not have any walls. it is used for storing of grain and other supplies.

Poor Dorji really doesn't like whenever the cable car passes under a beam and suddenly speeds up for a few seconds.
