The bike ride from Tbilisi in Georgia to Baku in Azerbaijan, even though not the most physically challenging, was the one that hurt me the most. Over 5 years have passed since I cycled around the UK and Ireland and the time has come to get back in the ol' saddle. This time I will attempt to initially make the shores of New Zealand, initially cycling through Europe to Istanbul, the gateway to Asia, before following the silk routes through Central Asia and China to the Far East. Following a flight or preferably a boat journey to Australia, I will attempt to cycle across the Nullabor from Perth to Sydney, before heading onwards to New Zealand. Much has changed in Baku during the past 7 years. I did not recognise the city any longer. However the drivers are still mad!

Derek has terminal cancer and has elected to cycle to Everest Base Camp, because his Doctor said he would never achieve it! We will be cycling the Pamir Highway together.

Keep it up old boy!!
You are doing fab! So good to see pics of Baku and how it has changed since we were there. I seem to remember visiting a rather painful massage and sauna somewhere round this part of the world. Love the blog.... wishing I could share some of this. However off to the high Arctic for a 4 week photography project next week.... Blowing hot and cold!
