Day 3 was all about the wildlife. It started early with the baboons around camp attacking one particular tent across from us. I don't think they necessarily wanted anything inside, just to cause trouble. We thought whoever was using the tent was on safari because we had not seen anyone there and it was full of stuff. I think it initially started accidentally with the baboons chasing each other and one jumped on the awning and it tore, then it just seemed to become a game to them to jump on the tent and rip it to shreds. Amusing and scary. The smaller velvet monkeys were also watching the show. The guide said the monkeys are fine, but the baboons are "troublemakers" - my word, but he agreed. So, you want to know just how tired I am? Well, we uploaded the photos for today's blog....yesterday. Too funny.......I had a sense of that last night (at midnight) when I put the photos into DropBox for my team .......not their fault - totally mine, LOL! EDIT: It is fixed now. Well, that’s about all that comes to mind! This time in Zimbabwe has been overwhelming, miraculous, challenging, emotional, life-changing, ……and fun, too. I am sharing this adventure with some incredible colleagues – and I am so very grateful and humbled by the experience. First of all – a very BIG birthday shout-out to my awesome grandson, Brian – happy birthday, bud!!!!! I’m thinking about you………and can’t wait to talk to you soon. So, yesterday, we were up and at ‘em at 4 a.m. and headed to the airport – flight to Johannesburg and then on to Victoria Falls was comfortable, and delightful for me because I got to sit with my buddy, Darla (http://www.alignandprofit.com) I really respect Darla and the great work she is doing; we spent the time together discussing our respective projects and how ... read more

One of my day trips from Victoria Falls included a 2 hour drive east to Hwange, Zimbabwe. This was home to my sponsored child, Bravo Shoko. He lives in rural Hwange, which is about 40 minutes outside of the main Hwange township. However, try not to imagine a large, developed town as this "township," as it is quite sparse and consists of a few government buildings, shops, one large grocery store and a clothing store. There are also many developed houses as well. However, much of the population in Hwange lives in the rural areas, which are a huge contrast from even the under developed township. After arriving to town and having a slight briefing at the World Vision office, the two World Vision escorts and I did some grocery shopping to bring some food to ... read more
