Friday morning we went to St. Jude's School (I can't remember the
proper name for it, most everyone just calls it St. Jude's I think) in
the nearby town of Arusha. St. Jude's is a school for the poorest of
the poor children, and it is free for them to board and gain an
education. They do background checks to make sure that the students
they enroll really are poverty-stricken, and they have turned many
kids away because they were too "rich" by the standards.

It's truly an amazing place. We took a tour of the school and the
facilities are amazing, and the kids seem so happy and content. It's
such a nice place, and it's made possible by donations and the
determination of the school's founder, Gemma (I don't know her last
name). She started the school with one child in 2002 (I think), and
this year they expect to break the 1,000 student mark. I honestly
can't explain how much going to the school and being with the students
and listening to the story of the birth and development of the school
has moved me. It's just one of the many profound experiences that
have happened during our stay in Tanzania.

Did we learn about St. Jude's during Interim? For some reason, your description sounds familiar....is that where Sarah Mills volunteered? Can't wait to see photos that you guys take...and I know you cannot film everyone you see out of courtesy for their privacy. Enjoy the remainder of your time in Tanzania. Patty
