Oudtshoorn
This is where I ran- gorgeous huh? Of course, the day we leave Cape Town its clear blue skies and warm. Mother Nature can be really mean sometimes. But then we headed up to Oudtshoorn, where we stayed in Red Stone Hills Farm. It reminded me so much of Colorado, but the hiking was super pretty and one more we got up and ran at sunrise- absolutely beautiful. There we got to explore the Cango Caves. In one of the caverns in the caves they used to have concerts, but they stopped when people would leave the concert, go explore the caves and beak off pieces of stalagmites. There were some super cool parts where we had to crawl through super tiny places (one hole was 27m high and 1m long) and basically it rocked. That same day we went to an ostrich farm and we got to ride ostriches!!! They can run 50-60 mph for up to 2-3 hours with no breaks- but of course we didn't go that fast (although how awesome would that have been?!). That night we had ostrich for dinner and it was AMAZING. Probably my favorite thing I've eaten here. They fed us so well at that farm- i'm talking like 3
course meals here with tons of food. Not that I'm complaining. From there we went to Knysna, which is on the Indian Ocean coast. We didn't stay in town, we stayed at the Forest Edge cabins which are kind of at the base of the mountains. Again, it's like Colorado. But they had outdoor showers, so showering under the stars was pretty sweet. There were hiking trails to waterfalls and rock pools, but as we were hiking them little did we know it's a 6 mile hike from our cabins just to the start of the trails, then it's another 40 minute hike after that. stupid, i wish they would've told us that. But we got to hike around the coast of Knysna which was GORGEOUS, and then got to eat at this awesome restaurant- basically it was like the rainforest cafe in real life. mall of america didnt have anything on this. After Knysna we went to Port Elizabeth (where I am now). On the way there we went bungee jumping!! It was awesome- I can't even explain it. Free falling is one of the biggest adrenaline rushes I will ever get. The first day we just hung out
Knysna
Yes, there is life after death (technically I didn't die, but I'm still alive) at the beach because it was our free day and it was actually warm and sunny. Yesterday was safari day!!! Best day ever. We saw giraffes (yes nick, I did get you pictures), zebras, buffalo, warthogs, about 50 types of antelope, lions, you name it. we got to see a lioness eating her kill from a distance, so that was pretty cool. after dinner we sat about 4m away from an 8yr old male lion, and we just sat there watching him for about 30 minutes. then he took off after some springbuck or something at full speed- way awesome. If you ever get a chance to safari, do it. Stupid time limits- I"ll post more pictures when i'm not on a constraint.
