Hyena PupsHyena Pups
Hyena Pups

We saw quite a few hyenas (5,340 in Kruger), but these puppies at the side of the road near a culvert we soooo cute - can't say the same about their parents
CheetahCheetah
Cheetah

Secretive and hard to see and with only 120 in Kruger, seeing cheetah was extremely lucky
CaracalCaracal
Caracal

This cat is highly secretive and difficult to observe. Its 'superpower' has been documented though: it can leap up to 10 feet straight up and catch birds in midair.

African Wild cat

Sightings are typically near sundown or sunrise, so photos are an issue. This cat, which is about the size of a domestic house cat, can be difficult to spot.
Civet aka Civet CatCivet aka Civet Cat
Civet aka Civet Cat

Not really a cat; more closely related to mongooses. Only saw at night, but we saw many on one night drive and the spotlights from our safari vehicle helps us get photos
Black-backed JackalBlack-backed Jackal
Black-backed Jackal

Frequently spotted - they are like a coyote in that they scavenge as well as hunt for themselves
CrocodileCrocodile
Crocodile

There wasn't a waterholes bank that didn't have at least one croc basking
Monkey, VervetMonkey, Vervet
Monkey, Vervet

This guy looks pretty chill, but they are known to be aggressive, particularly if food is involved.
Vervet MonkeyVervet Monkey
Vervet Monkey

Wide-spread primate known for stealing food right out of a person's hand. We've seen them break into rondavels in rest camps and work as a team emptying the larder.
Samango monkeySamango monkey
Samango monkey

Found only in coastal forests and not having very many in South Africa, we'd never seen a Samango monkey before Port Edward where we walked in a nature preserve

They always looked so 'zen'
Ring-tail lemurRing-tail lemur
Ring-tail lemur

As I mentioned, they were most often seen on the ground, but this group in a tree was the best!

Baboon

These guys scare the pajeebies out of me - they can be aggressive

Rhino Pilanesberg

Many of the rhino in Pilanesberg had their horns cut down to nubs - to discourage poachers
