We are back on the coast and the Garden Route, and are currently in Tsitsikamma National Park. We have got 2 nights in a very cool chalet with ocean views. I am looking out to sea as I write this. I can even see Dassies clambering about on the rocks in front of me! This is the life.
We thought we might just melt on the way here as the temperature reached 38.5 degrees!!! It was already 34 degrees by 9am. Thankfully it cooled down considerably to 28 degrees by the time we arrived.
Went on a walk this afternoon to a suspension bridge over Storms River and then up to a look out. We did not realise exactly where the look out was, otherwise we would have been put off! It was a lot of steps. We ended up really high with great views.
When we got back we were very hot and sweaty so headed to the chalet to eat our ice lollies and get our swimming gear. There is a nice sandy cove a few minutes walk away. Unfortunately by the time we had 'lotioned up' the weather had changed and the bright blue sky
had gone and it was overcast and grey!! It is also fairly chilly (might need to locate my warm top!)
We are sure this has occurred as we had planned a braai tonight and had even bought some charcoal. Clearly the curse of the British BBQ has followed us. We do have a well equipped kitchen so it shouldn't be too bad. We have a notice in our kitchen telling us to make sure we lock all our doors when we not in and to leave food out of sight so the baboons don't get in and eat it! I am yet to see any evidence of baboons but I will keep my fingers crossed that I see one.
Saturday: The day started with grey skys and a bit if drizzle! It was short lived though and by 11 it was hot and sunny (rather too hot and sunny - don't believe the Rough Guide when it says the maximum temperature here at this time of the year is 21 degrees)
We decided to walk 3km to a waterfall. The walk is the start of the Otter trail which is a famous multi day hike in
South Africa. To say the path is rough is an understatement! The first 1km or so was fairly easy going but after that it was all across the beach which would have been fine if that did not mean endless clambering over boulders! We made it thought and the views were good. When we got back we were knackered and we had to flop in the chalet for a little while to recover!
We did get to go to the beach though. Considering this is the Indian Ocean the water is icy! We feel that the sea here should be warmer. I don't think that we will be swimming in the sea anywhere as every time we stick a toe in we think “too cold!”
Good news on the weather front. It did not cloud over and we got our braai. We got to sit on our balcony watching the crashing waves of the ocean, the dassies running about on the rocks and eating our braaied food. Jealous?

I'm working my way through all your blogs getting more and more depressed due to jealousy. I am going to send the link to Simon. I will probably have booked my holiday by the time you're back! I look forward to the photo's. Maybe I can borrow you book :)
