Going to Cape Town on this plane...
Friday afternoon Niraj headed back to Calgary and the rest of us headed to Cape Town from JoBurg International. We arrived in Cape Town early evening and very impressed with the scenery and the surroundings. Cape Town was much greener than JoBurg much like Vancouver. Dinner was at Bukhara, an interesting East Indian restaurant in downtown Cape Town with a pub/lounge type atmosphere. The food was one of the best we had ever had and the price very reasonable. The atmosphere was like a New York boutique lounge.

Sat morning we toured picturesque Cape Town in a double-decker open-top red bus. The drive was stunning and after seeing some nice architecture in downtown we headed up the hill to Table Mountain. We took the 64 person revolving gondola to the top of Table Mountain where the view was spectacular and it was a sunny clear day so we could see for miles. Then driving along the coastline we saw Camps Bay, Cliffton Beach, and Seapoint where the houses were large and overlooking the ocean. Many residents take a funicular train up to their home due to the steep slopes. There were many oceanside restaurants and bars and the beach had

white sand looking like Miami. Many upscale condos were along the oceanside.

The Victoria & Alfred (V&A) Waterfront was equally beautiful and packed with tourists and locals enjoying the nice day strolling along the waterfront and eating and drinking at the many, many restaurants there. We enjoyed our dinner at a Mexican restaurant. We tried to update the blog from an internet cafe in the waterfront, but the connection was very slow.

Sunday morning we drove towards Cape Point after a waterfront breakfast. The drive to Cape Point although long was quite spectacular. At Cape Point we saw where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet from the elevated lighthouse. Interesting to note, that the Indian Ocean is much warmer (20 degreese C) than the Atlantic (14 degrees C) hence much more diverse fish in the Indian ocean and many more surfers along Cliffton Beach!

After a quick stop at Cape of Good Hope (the most South-Western point of Africa) we headed along the coastline towards the Garden Route. Again the coastline was abundant with nice beaches and large homes and condos. The night was spent in Swellendam after dinner at a small local Malay restaurant.
