Impressions and Itinerary of our Trip

This first entry is our summary of impressions as well as what we have done and what we know our plans are for what we will do. I (Jessica) will probably be writing all of the entries... if John writes any he will state that it's him at the beginning, so generally just assume it's me writing. The day by day entries will be lots of pictures and lots of details because this is primarily for us to remember the details of our trip. The average person will find boring to read I'm sure... I'm also sure Mom will probably read every word 😉


First Impressions: We've only been in South Africa for 2.5 days now, and the people are soooo incredibly friendly!! I have to say I think more friendly than anywhere else I've travelled to thus far. We keep referring to Cape Town as San Francisco's sister city because of these similarities: major city, weather, nearby wineries, Alcatraz/Robbin Island, micro-climates, very cold oceans, beach mountains and wine country all in short driving distance, both are two of the three breeding grounds in the world for great white sharks.

Our Itinerary:


• Oct 1-3 - Flight from SFO to JFK, JFK to Johannesburg, Johannesburg to Cape Town
• Oct 4 - Relaxation and spa day
• Oct 5 - Private tour around the Peninsula, boat ride to Seal Island, drive down to Cape Point hike up to the lighthouse and to the point, Boulder Beach to visit the penguins!
• Oct 6 - Hike up to Table Mountain, High Tea at Mount Nelson Hotel, Sunset drinks Long Street
• Oct 7 - Robben Island
• Oct 8 - Private tour to Town ship then drive to Franschhoek in the wine country
• Oct 9 - Private tour of wine country
• Oct 10 - 13 Kruger Park, staying at Shumbalala Game Lodge
• Oct 13-16 - Mala Mala - staying at the main camp
• Oct 16 - Westcliff Hotel in Johannesberg
• Oct 17-20 - Fly to Livingstone, stay at Royal Livingstone hotel - Victoria Falls
• Oct 17 - Train Safari
• Oct 18 - Go to Zimbabwe side of Victoria Falls and Zambeze River safari
• Oct 19 - Full day trip to Chobe Game Reserve in Botswana
• Oct 20 - Go to Livingston Island and Devil's Pool for Breakfast, fly back to Johannesberg to fly home 😞(((
