01 Resting
A lioness resting. Geo: -25.4572, 31.4981
Our first sighting on the early morning game drive was a lioness that was sleeping in the grass. It looked like she had recently had a good feed – as her belly was full looking. She woke a few minutes later and walked off into the bush and was then out of sight. Soon after, we came across a bull elephant and a monitor basking on a rock by a river.
On the way back to camp we stopped and watched a Giant African Land Snail as it slowly walked across the road. We got back to camp at about 9, had breakfast, packed up and left about forty-five minutes later.
On the way to our next camp site at Berg en Dahl we stopped to watch a tortoise walk along the road. We also saw the top of a giraffe's head as it ate leaves from a tall plant.
Then we waited as a breeding herd of elephants crossed the road in front of us. It then became a bit exciting and scary because a male elephant that was not part of the herd was trying to follow them as he was interested in the female. But there was
02 Head Up
The lioness has put her head up. already a male with the herd that this particular female was interested in, this male became quite angry with the intruder. This resulted in a male chasing the intruder, there was such noise and it felt like the earth moved. I was a little bit scared as we were sitting in a little car, luckily we weren't in their way. It was such a strange sight to see two adult elephants run.
Soon after we saw about five dung beetles rolling a ball of dung. This dung ball would have been made by one beetle and the others were trying to steal it. It was quite comical to watch. A little later we stopped to watch three white rhinos. Two of them were sitting in a shallow waterhole and one was approaching the waterhole. A few minutes the two that were sitting in the water got up and walked away with the third rhino.
Further on down the road we stopped to watch a very tall, dark furred adult giraffe walk alongside the car and then cross the road ahead of us. It joined a younger, lighter coloured giraffe and together they ate leaves.

03 Walking Away
The lioness walking away. river we saw a waterbuck, about half a dozen dagga boys sitting in the water and a crocodile swimming. Further along the road in another part of the river we saw a pod of floating hippos. Hippos seem to float close to each other.
We then drove past a herd of females and their young impala, amongst the impalas was a tortoise. Later on we saw a small breeding herd of elephants that were crossing the road and walking off into the thick bush. One of the mothers and her calf stayed on the road, looked at us and then the baby had a drink of milk from its mother.
It was about three o'clock when we arrived at the rest camp. After a wander about the camp we set up our tent. From our camp site we saw an elephant walk past and a couple of warthogs. This was our last night of camping in Kruger and once again we camped on the fence in the hope of animal sightings. The rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing about camp.
