It was a relatively short drive from Dundee to the Central Drakensberg. We decided to do a day walk from Monk's Cowl to see the Nandi Falls. At only 6km and claiming to be relatively flat (relative to what we'd like to know!) we thought we'd have a nice gentle stroll. We must be seriously out of condition from sitting on our bums in an overland truck for weeks, because it was hard going at times and we are used to walking much further at home. The sun came out and it was rather hot walking around the mountains, especially charging up and down lots of steps. Jase was so hot he kept taking his t-shirt off, although he had to repeatedly put it back on as he was scaring the other hikers. The view of Champagne Castle and Cathkin Peak was spectacular! You can see why they are called the Dragon Mountains. Eventually we escaped the heat and savoured the shade of the trees as we dipped down the gorge to Nandi Falls. After a seemingly endless trek back to the car, we drove to Inkosana Lodge with jelly legs. We recovered after devouring the three-course meal at the hostel

and then got chatting to a local South African chap who was working on an engineering project in the area. Although the lodge had mixed up our booking and we didn't get the ensuite we reserved, it worked out well, as we enjoyed lovely outdoor showers in the mountain air.
