Palais Bahia
Jewish Quarters and Synagogue
Palais Badi

We are staying in a Riad in the old Médina of Marrakech.
Beautiful house with an open courtyard and beautiful roof terraces overlooking the city.
It feels we have gone back in time
The gateway to the Sahara
The walls of the city are red washed thick simple
The narrow streets are filled with pedestrians motorcycles small cars donkey drawn carriages tuk tuks and lined with shops
Jewelers carpets tiles ceramics metal work dyes leather spices natural beauty products textile
My husband and I are so stimulated that we gave up following maps and GPS. We just learned to get lost in these alleys.
That is the only way to do it.
Otherwise it is maddening !!!
There is no sense of direction since these souks and alleys are narrow and or covered with screens straws fabric and one cannot position the sun.
The only indicator is the sound of the Azhan projecting five times a day from the mosques from all directions
The names of the alleys are sometimes written and sometimes not
Most people don’t even know them.
Our first day in Marrakech we managed to visit the
Palais Bahia the Jewish Quarters and Synagogue and the Palais Badi
All walking distance from our Riad
We still managed to get lost, but came across so many beautiful surprises
One thing that is just so beautiful about Morocco
Is that it is a living culture
These artisans are still living and passing over their craft to the next generation.
It does not cater to the tourists. It includes the tourist in its everyday.
Despite its initial harshness, when the layers are slowly peeled off, it is spectacular.
Those are my thoughts.
Leaving it will be hard for me.
I am growing very accustomed to it.
