This was our second day in Morocco.
We went back to the market for the morning. Same things, just as great the second time. Only now we knew what was coming, and we were veterans at bargaining. I got all my gifts today for everyone back home. I’m shocked all over again at where I am. This is amazing.
After some shopping, me Ryan and Jamie sit down at a café and have some more mint tea. This time it has full mint leaves in them. It is so good. I can’t wait to bring some home for my Mudd Puddlers
We have a long drive today, and are heading more inland. I’m not sure exactly where we’re going, but it’s far. At least six hours of traveling.
The roads are on the sides of the mountain, but that didn’t change anything. We still passed cars and trucks nonstop. Now only there is a 100 foot drop off only a few feet away. I don’t do well with driving next to cliffs to begin with, so add in the factor of insanity and it was a true thrill ride. Only scary. At one point I just
had to sit back and relax and close my eyes with my ipod on loud. Thank god I took Dramamine.
We stop at another rest stop and once we step out of the vans everyone is looking at this huge group of Americans. There are hanging skinned bodies of some animal outside the place we go to eat. I wish I took a picture, but I didn’t want to look more like a tourist than I already did.
We go upstairs and it’s a bunch of white plastic tables and bench seating with big pillows on them. It was so comfortable. They give us this flat bread that looked and tasted like really thick crepes. It was so good. A little oil, salt, and cumin on it and I was set. They also gave us mint tea, these little hamburger things, and a tomato and onion salad. I loved the bread and salad, but the hamburgers weren’t my favorite. The bathroom in this place was scary. They were literally holes in the ground, and it was wet ALL over. Someone was cleaning the floor by just pouring water on it and swishing it around. I don’t want to
know what kind of things I was stepping in. I won’t even get into the smells.
We got back on the road and finally arrived to our hotel. It was really cute and had a little mountain nears it. Naturally, Miguel had us climb it to see the sunset. It was cloudy but still beautiful. We had to pass through a small village to get there and saw some of the life there. So interestingly different. People were still asking us for money and such, but it wasn’t as crazy as Marrakech. Once on the top we had a gorgeous view. I wish it wasn’t so dark so I could’ve gotten better pictures. It was incredibly windy, in fact one of my earrings BLEW off. Off well, if you’re going to lose an earring, what better place?
Me and Nadine were singing random songs at the top of our lungs with the wind down our throats. It was so much fun. On the walk down we came across a bunch of puppies and I miss Sammy .
Once back at the hotel we ate dinner. It was taijime, bread, a soup, and some fruit and tea for
dessert. After, we hung out in a tent outside with some pillows and drums and candles. A few locals came out and hung out with us and taught us some songs with the drums. We also danced with them. They were characters. Also a traditional man of that particular village came and hung out with us. He was very old; he looked about 80 but claimed he was 45. He was such a character. That night was fun besides the fact that they were all trying to get with any American girl. Too bad we classy 😉
Today was just as amazing as yesterday. It was a lot of travel, but all worth it. Hanging out with some of the locals was such a good time. It showed us a different side to Morocco rather than a city. I’m so anxious for what’s to come tomorrow. We have to travel to the desert! I can’t wait…
