We woke up this morning not entirely certain of how we were getting to Oualidia. Once we had packed up our bags, we sought out the CTM bus station in the hope that there would be a bus. We were lucky that there was one leaving at twelve thirty and that we could leave our bags there whilst we went for a walk around.
I saw that there was a bookshop nearby that had a "small selection" of English language books. The selection was pitiful. There were all the usual classics and then four crime fiction books all by the same author. I did find one book that was slightly larger than the others but they were all English prices which is pretty steep.
We haven't eaten much recently so we decided to look for breakfast and something to eat on the coach. This is easier said than done. I still have a bit of an upset stomach and so don't really feel like eating anything, in particular anything tagine like. We tried to find a cremerie that would put some Dairy lea into a baguette for us which was fairly easy. We wanted an apple to cut up
to put inside our sandwiches, but we tried a stall and he wanted 6dh for one. We thought he was joking, but the second stall wanted 5dh for one. We left without buying one, but as we walked away we thought that maybe it is so expensive because they don't grow them in Morocco.
We stopped at a café next to the bus station and had orange juices and Rob had a pain chocolat. Once we finished we nipped next door to the bus where they had already loaded our bags for us. We were asked to fill in two questionnaires which were pretty taxing as they were in French. We managed to fill in a surprising amount considering neither of us speaks French. The journey was supposed to take five hours so we were caught completely unaware when just after four hours we realised that we were in Oualidia.
The guidebook didn't have many budget options listed; Hotel Thalassa was the only one. The price was a lot higher than we expected but we had little choice, so we took it. We filled in the now ever so tiresome passport form and sat down for a quick
mint tea. Whilst we were sitting down, we saw that the temperature was 28°C, back to normal weather again.
The first thing we did was to walk straight down onto the beach. There is something called the lagoon which is basically an area of sea around an island of sand that is revealed in a sheltered bay when the tide is out. There were quite a few people around, but the majority of them were fisherman who had little grills set up so that you could eat their fish there and then.
We climbed up onto the rocks that protect the bay, and were amazed to see the ferocity that they were crashing in at. We sat and watched them for ages, and only narrowly avoided getting drenched by the largest ones. We hung around until the sun had pretty much disappeared and then headed back to the hotel as the wind was beginning to pick up.
There was a lady making those thick crepe things that we love so much so we bought two. We got some honey to go with them and sat down to make them up. They were beautiful but extremely thick and
therefore very filling. This didn't bode well for our evening meal which needed to be eaten early due to the lack of eateries in the village. Luckily as we got back to our hotel the owner was there and he said it would be ok to eat there at eight.
We picked a table with a perfect view of the T.V which was showing the Arsenal Vs A.C Milan. Rob had oysters which he really wasn't too much a fan of and described them as sea water. I just had a cheese pizza which was dull but didn't upset my stomach too much. We finished well before the game finished but seeing as though most people in there were drinking glasses of water, we didn't think it would matter if we hung around until the end.
We did find an internet café, but the connection was terrible so we didn't hang around for Long. We are now back in the hotel room and its freezing. There aren't any spare blankets so Rob will just have to keep me warm tonight. Night night. Stob.
