Please visit me at: http://www.angelprojects.org/ I Have Moved - 4 Years On - And a Totally New Challenge
So much has happened since I started this blog - and looking back over four years I am a little sad that I didn't keep up with my blog writing. Since those last entries from 2006 - I got married, continued to travel the World, moved through a couple of different jobs, saw the wonderful boom times of Dubai and then the dreadful 'crash'.
I hope to cover all of those highlights in some detail over the next few months on my new Blog (http://www.angelprojects.org/blog/my-stories/) - but for now I just wanted all of my subscribers and followers to know that I am still alive and well! And that I have decided to start writing again.
A few months ago I found myself here in West Africa. With no particular plan - just pleased to be near my husband (who's work brought him here) - I travelled the country, got right in to living in the traditional village communities and started working with a few international aid agencies. I have had a wonderful time so far - and for a girl who has a burning
Baobab Tree
The Tree of Life - inspiration for my AngelProjects.org logo desire to be working with the people in the world who could sometimes use a little help there is so much to do here.
The interest, kindness and support of my family and friends when they learned what I was doing was enormous, and I quickly found myself fielding enquiries such as whether I could help to distribute some 'care packages' or aid items from people. I happily obliged and very quickly realised that there was a very real and present demand for such a role.
I discussed what I was witnessing with many people, and I quickly came to understand that so many people want to GIVE, and yet so many people have such reservations about where their money really goes. I have felt this - and indeed seen this first hand in other organisations. I hate the idea of donating a few pennies in every dollar to costly organisational overheads and unnecessary expenses.
Out of this Angel Projects (http://www.angelprojects.org/) was born.
Angel Projects is a grassroots level organisation that aims to empower communities in West Africa to gain access to the funds and facilities to improve their situation. I intend to do this
Me and Sira
Sira - the most wonderul little "Miss Independent World Traveller" at age 18 months can often be found wandering around miles from home! by creating a global network of 'Angel Donors' - similar to Angel Investors in business - who will individually or as an organisation take responsibility for the funding of a particular Project. I will then see to it that every penny of those donated funds are spent
only on that Project - and that the Project is completed within budget if possible.
It is a simple a straightforward concept - and one that I believe is a winning formula: it will satisfy the desire of willing Donors to give and be sure that the funds are spent properly and contribute in their entirety to a designated Project, it will empower communities in one of the World's poorest countries and it will the fill gaps where other organisations have not provided a solution.
The aim of the Angel Projects (http://www.angelprojects.org) is to do this in a 'Charity 2.0' manner - through careful collaboration with other charities and NGOs to achieve synergies that would otherwise not be possible. I want to leverage the personal connections and networks that we all have - and provide a way for individuals to be intimately connected with actual real world Projects on a continent
Lots of Laughter
You can't help but laugh round here! far away from theirs.
Angel Donors (http://www.angelprojects.org/about-us/vision/) will be personally recognised for their role in making a particular Project happen - and through the online 'shopfront' (http://www.angelprojects.org/projects-2/projects-page/) will be able to choose a particular Angel Project and fund it instantly.
Please follow the links to the new site, have a read through for yourself, comment and give me any feedback that you wish. I would like to build a whole new movement through this - and really hope that you'll help me. I have every reason to believe that we can build a massive global network of
Angel Donors and complete loads of Projects.
Ultimately, I would love to see this concept spread and to be able to have branches of Angel Projects all over the developing world. Above all, I would like to always operate this as an orgnisation that can genuinely claim to be
zero cost to the Donors who give to Projects - thus ensuring
that every penny goes to the actual completion of the Project itself.
