Ethiopia is ranked 173 in the HDI. That is bad because for the rank the higher the number the more underdeveloped it is. For the index, the closer the number is to 1 the more developed the country is. The index for Ethiopia is .396 and that is bad. I will be comparing the life expectancy, the education, and the income of the country between America and Ethiopia. America has a life expectancy of 78.7 years while people in Ethiopia live to the age of 59.7 years. The income of America is $43480 while Ethiopia is almost 40 times lower with $1017. The last thing is the education of the two countries. People in the U.S have 13.3 years of schooling while people in Ethiopia have only 2.2 years. The country I chose is undeveloped because the ranking is so high and the index is low. This place can become better if aid was given to this country and education system was helped and that will help with the income. By giving the people medicine or healthcare the life expectancy will rise.
