Running pictures en masse
We enjoy running very much and we try to run regularly both when we are at home and when we are on vacation. Two years ago we decided to publish a
blog entry with photos of us running in various places around the world. We have continued to travel since then and we haven't stopped running. We have in the last two years taken enough new running photos that we are now able to make a sequel to the Running All Over The World-blog. For this sequel to stand out, and not just look like a tired repetition of something old we thought about naming it something cool. We thought about giving it the name
"Running all over the World II - With a Vengeance" or perhaps
"Running all over the World II - Judgement Day". But we settled for the lame "Running all over the World II". We have made it easy for ourselves this time. Much of the text below we have simply copied from the first Running all over the World-blog.
We find that running is a good way to stay in shape and also a great way to do sightseeing. We usually carry a camera with us on our sightseeing runs and some of those photos we have now collected
in this blog entry. All the photos are of us when we are running in different places in some of the countries we have visited. So if you are not interested in two middle aged Swedes trying to find the perfect stride in various locations, some famous most not, there really is very little point in looking further into this blog entry than you already have. Feel free to skip it all if you like. We won't be offended, we promise. If someone posted a blog entry with pictures of themselves playing chess we doubt that we would bother reading it.
A few of the photos further down you have been able to see elsewhere on this blog but most of them are new. We haven't set up any specific rules regarding which photos to include and which photos to delete. We try to include a variation of places and every now and then we try to get something interesting in the background. Sometimes we run in the picture and sometimes we stop and pose for the photo.
A few of the photos are worth mentioning separately. We don't quite have the balls call
them "highlights", but they are somewhat interesting.
Baarle Hertog/Baarle Nassau - note that we sit on a bench which is right on the border between
Belgium and
Netherlands. Baarle Hertog/Baarle Nassau is a very strange place and if you follow either of the two links in the previous sentence you can learn more about what makes it special.
Badwater - Badwater is lowest point in the USA and also one of the hottest places in the World. In July each year Badwater Ultramarathon a 135 mile/217 km long footrace takes place in Death Valley. The date of the race is set to coincide with the hottest time of the year thus making Badwater Ultramarathon an extremely difficult race to finish. We ran less than a hundred meters and can verify that it was very hot. There were actually signs in Death Valley warning people not to go out during the day.
Winterset - Winterset is famous for film fans due to both being where actor John Wayne was born and being the biggest town in Madison County, made famous by the movie The Bridges of Madison County. In one of the
photos we can be seen running through one of Madison County's covered bridges.
Songs that are about running are often popular among runners. Example of such songs are
Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen
Keep On Running - Spencer Davies Group
Run Like Hell - Pink Floyd
Run to the Hills - Iron Maiden
Running to Stand Still - U2
Running on Empty - Jackson Browne
Wonder what the World would be like if all songs were about running... Then we would have songs with the following titles
Start me Run - The Rolling Stones
The House of the Running Sun - The Animals
Run Around the Clock - Bill Haley
Running USA - The Beach Boys
Running in the Wind - Bob Dylan
and last but not least
Running all over the World - Status Quo
because that is what we do...
