Ann here -- okay, we're not sure how people can survive in this weather! Hotter then hot, add in humidity, then (for the fun of it) rain like crazy in the afternoon. We were spoiled by the weather in NY. While we were there, we had 80 degree weather with no humidity to speak of. Everyday makes us totally appreciate the weather back home. Todays weather actually wasn't that bad... it wasn't as hot as it was on Monday... and (although it rained) we did not get caught in it.
Today we hit The Mall - not the shopping mall, but the Washington, DC Mall - we visited two of the Smithsonians - (1) the National Museum of American History. Nice overall museum, but, after spending a few hours at the Metropolian Museum of Art in NYC, we felt like we had seen most of these artifacts before. Although the high point (for Katherine) was the Hope Diamond and Gem display (Katherine's a sucker for shiny sparkly things ); (2) the National Air and Space Museum. This was by far our favorite museum! We spent hours in there! Katherine took a ton of photos for Sarah . Rich and
David also went through a flight simulator... David was the pilot... Rich was his gunter... they had a great time! I tried rushing them out of there onto the Capitol but decided to just let them enjoy it. Unfortunately, we made it to the edge of the Capitol, but didn't have time to go through it, as we needed to be at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing by 5pm for a tour. As it turned out, we got to the Bueau of Engraving a few minutes early so we decided to go through the Holocaust Museum. This wasn't on our "sites to see", but we ended up being very glad we had time to go through at least part of it. For such a awful subject, the museum was put together in really good taste, very educational! We were glad we went the the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. They give a great tour of how money is made... we watched them making 100 dollar bills... pretty fascinating process. The title of this blog comes from the saying at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing... we thought it was cute.
We would've like to have seen the American
Downpour.... AGAIN!
It poured again today, luckily we were safely in the Air and Space Museum. History Smithsonian but it's closed until next year. A tour of the Capitol, Library of Congress, and FBI will have to wait until our next trip.
From the Mall area, we decided to catch the Metro and head up to Dupont Circle. We had to do our first transfer, so it made the trip extra challenging. 😊 We got to Dupont Circle late, so there weren't any of the museums open, so we walked around and just took the sites in. We had read about a restaurant up there (Luigi's)... they boasted 40+ different pizza toppings... I was expecting just another pizza place, but this was a nice Italian restaurant... the fresh bread was amazing... the kids and I had pizza... hey, Mom, I actually had a bay shrimp and pine nuts pizza... ordered it with pine nuts just for you! Very yummy dinner.
We made our way back to the hotel. Tomorrow we're going to Arlington Cemetery and Georgetown, then to Anne and Bill's. We probably won't get a chance to blog tomorrow night, as we'll be at Anne's. More later, xoxoxo, Ann

Rain Drops Keep Falling on My Head!
I was ready to correct "The Buck Starts Here"--good thing you clarified it. Did Pres. Truman make "The Buck Stops Here" famous?..maybe I am wrong... ask Rich! Thanks for the pics, I think David has grown 6 inches on this trip. Pine nuts: very Italian, you know. ......Might as well have a Manhattan Up, too, and let Carrie know (inside joke). Weather report here: in the 80's past 2 days, I actually spent 2 hours puning, etc. today. Ten years ago at Phil and Mary's we had rain in July--very depressing to this CA native. Glad you are having such a good time.
