We booked hotel and flights thru expedia - sent all the paperwork we have to the Russian embassy who refused us a visa unless we provide documentation that expedia say they do not issue!
we booked flights and a hotel for a long weekend to St Petersburg in Russia thru expedia. We applied for the Russian visas, sending all the documentation that expedia had sent us. The Russian Embassy refused us a visa, saying that we needed an original tourist voucher stamped and signed by an authorised person detailing and confirming all our travel plans and that they were paid for,and a standard tourist confirmation in Russian of acceptance from the authorised Russian travel agency. I called expedia who said that they do not issue such documentation, despite selling the holiday, and that the Russian Embassy had recently agreed that as they were an internet based company, people booking thru them would not have to supply the above two pieces of documentation. So I have to call the Russian embassy on Monday to tell them this. I am not convinced that this is going to work! We'll see! Has anyone else had trouble getting a visa for Russia - dont laugh! Please tell me it is is common place??!
Reply to this usually ..you need an invitation to go to russia.this can be arranged by a travel company or an agency. but in your case you must follow up with expedia to get the original reservations in russia faxed to you.
