So I have to put my foot in my mouth because I am beginning to have second thoughts about only considering whether a country is safe or not to travel in. I am currently in Tibet and while I have started trying to do as much as possible through Tibetan businesses, a lot of money still goes to Chinese and the Chinese government (e.g. permits). I don't think that I feel to good about that and I wonder what my choice would have been if I had to do it over again.
Reply to this I'm not a traveller per se, but have started looking into going to Norway for a week - although i was put off as its a country which supports whaling. Then it dawned on me that everywhere supports something i (as a vegetarian animal lover) dont, even home in the UK where fox hunting is still happeneng, despite legislastion. So, unless i can go to an untouched planet, ethics will stop me seeing anything of the world, or actually leaving my own home.
I think its important to remember that we all have things we believe are ok, which others will disagree with. Our only option is to put up with things and get on with what we want to do - or buy our own island where we all live ethically.
Reply to this Ethics is such a personal thing. I don't know how much government policies would change my travel plans, but as a vegetarian, I always avoid any kind of zoo or animal show, and I would never see a bullfight although that wouldn't stop me from going to Spain.
