The much earlier idea for this is the Singapore based World Toilet Organization. I heard the founder, Jack Sim, interviewed on radio a while ago - he was very impressive. Reply to this

While anything people can do to make life easier for the less-fortunate, this is surely a blow to the traveller community. How are we going to show how 'hardcore' and crazy our adventures are!?
