Hey, if anyone is interested in the region, in particular the developing strife and conflict, I'd recommend the author Ahmed Rashid. He's a Pakistani journalist who has written quite a bit about the intricate relationships and motivations of various factions there. Descent Into Chaos is a particularly good read. Reply to this

I agree, it's one of the most inhospitable places on the planet. Far sooner be taken hostage by Somali pirates than spend an hour in many of the pubs there. At least the latter gives you the chance of getting out alive. Reply to this
