Can extra pages be added to UK passports?
13 years ago, February 10th 2011 No: 1 Msg: #128727
I have another 7 years left on my passport before it expires, however I'm quickly running out of pages. I'm planning quite a big trip next year which will involve travelling through a lot of countries that require visa's. I've tried to work it out and it'll be really close - I'll only be short of a couple of pages. I'd much rather try and get round this rather than paying £100+ for a new one.

Does anyone have any advice? Can I get away with this? Has anyone ever had pages sewn into their passport before?

Any help would be much appreciated :-) Reply to this

Unfortunately British passports can't have pages added it's something to do with the biometrics, you will have to get a new one. Our last passport only lasted 2 years out of the 10 it's issued for and this new 48 page passport we have now is almost full and it's only been 2 years!

You don't have any other option but to get a new one, the Passport Authority will add an additional 9 months onto the length of your new passport in an attempt to make up for the fact you are losing 7 years (crazy or what?) but don't go away without enough pages as if you need to get it renewed abroad it will cost you a lot more! For example, in Asia it costs £155 for a 48 page passport (versus the £90 in the UK) and you have to courier it to Hong Kong as passport renewal has been centralised there. It takes 4 weeks to process too! Only certain embassies in certain countries can process passport renewals now, so it's more of a pain to get it renewed abroad.

Go for a jumbo 48 page one to make sure you get your money's worth!
