@the gardiners---I haven't hiked the AT so I don't know. Each year when we hike through Frederick and around Harper's Ferry most of the people we meet seem to be pretty beat down and questioning if it was a good idea. On the other hand, Harper's Ferry is the middle of the trail so mentally it has to be a tough time and we may just catch them at an emotional low point. The fact only 10% make it to the end is a telling stat.
