Do you mean a real working fishing boat or a tourist boat? I have no idea about working boats but you can jump on one specifically for tourists in loads of places. The west coast is deinfinately the best to go on fishing tours. They do one day tours to week long tours. or, while you're in Thailand, you can keep an eye out for sailing boats that want crew to help them sail to Australia and I'm sure you'd get some time to fish too. Hi JQ - not exactly sure what you want to do but if you're thinking about working short term on fishing trawlers up in the gulf of carpenteria/arafura sea or general northern waters its a bit of a specialised job with very short space onboard most boats. Its not uncommon for more crew to be on the boat than bunks so shifts of people use the same bunk - wetbunking - so its not all that glamourous. Plus its long hard work in dangerous conditions often so experience is a big factor - if you google deckhand jobs you will find most ask for at least basic experience. Taking someone out to sea who hasnt worked out there is a risk. Found a few jobs in the area you're looking for here http://www.alljobs.com.au/deckhand-list.html

LOL I think its an awesome crazy adventure so I do hope you find someone who will take you on. Good Luck! Reply to this

what i was saying is that when the local fisherman in Indonesia go out fishing in the sea, i go with them , it's not a fishing tour but with real fisherman and i go wherever they go , that's the idea, Reply to this

If you get on a fishing boat in Indonesia and end up in Australian waters you will be detained if the boat is seen - its completely illegal to enter Australian waters on an Indonesian fishing boat. You will get a holiday at a detention centre which probably wont be much fun. Reply to this

If you manage to get to an island in the Torres Straits and swim through the Gulf of Carpenteria coping with currents and avoiding all crocodiles, sharks and box jellyfish and sea snakes - please let me know - you will be the first person who has ever done it. Reply to this
