Never book with Ouse Bridge House B&B in Cockermouth, Cumbria because if there is even the slighrest delay in getting to them they will leave you stranded - even if you have already paid for your room in full, in advance!

Everyone beware of these Stephen and Katie at Ouse Bridge House B&B in Cockermouth, Cumbria. There are a lot of B&Bs and hotels on offer in and around the area - make sure you stay with anyone EXCEPT the Ouse Bridge House!!

If there is the slightest dealy for you, they will lock you out and leave you stranded.

Here is what happened to me in April 2010:

I am a young female, travelling on my own on a business trip to Cockermouth in Cumbria, the Lake District.

I had previously agreed with them to arrive approx 10:30pm and after this was agreed I then paid in full for my room over the phone. I was able to set off an hour earlier than anticipated so all seemed to be going well initially.

Unfortuantely, along my route there were a large combination of accidents/incidents/extremely heavy congestion and also roadworks all the way along the M6. This added more and more time to my journey.

After 4 1/2 hours worth of travelling, I still had one hour left to go according to the sat nav but it is possible to be a bit shorter than that because at that point the traffic had cleared. I tried calling the B&B several times but unfortunately the signal was patchy.

I managed to get through and I let them know that I'd been delayed, the sat nav gave me an estimate of 11:30 but I may well get there earlier.

Their reponse to this?! "That's unacceptable, you need to find somewhere else" !!!!! WHAT?!

I had no money, I had asked for my expenses upfront to be able to pay for this room, I had no details of anywhere else to go and even if I did I didn't fancy my chances of getting through to them.

I explained it was nearly freexing outside - it was already jus 3 degress celsius and could well get a lot colder, especially in the Lake District area. I reminded her that I am a solo traveller with a lot of very expensive equipment and sleeping in my car for the night really isn't very safe!!

Katie, the person I was speaking to, had absoutely no interest whatsoever.

Staying up just one more hour, maximum, then going downstairs and opening a door was FAR TOO MUCH EFFORT. She preferred to abandon me altogether.

She couldn't even simply leave the door open for me, nor ring round other local B&Bs in the area on my behalf and transfer the money - NOTHING!

I reminded her I had NO money, nowhere to go and that this will leave me COMPLETELY stranded.

I asked her, "Why are you doing this to me?!"

And you know what she did?!?!??? SHE HUNG UP.

So - the warning is NEVER BOOK WITH THEM - THEY DO NOT CARE FOR YOUR SAFETY OR WELFARE AND IF THERE IS EVEN A SLIGHT DELAY WITH YOUR JOURNEY THEY WILL ABANDON YOU. FOR YOUR OWN AND OTHERS BENEFIT, DO NOT EVER BOOK WITH THESE PEOPLE.

If there is anyone out there who is interested in reading the full story which also includes emailes between me and Ouse Bridge House B&B after that night, just take a look at my blog:
