What's the most you've had to pay?

On one of my relocation flights from Tokyo to Auckland (a few years ago) I got stung with paying over $NZ400 in excess baggage fees - all because I had been given so much stuff right before I left, including quite a few books.......

It hadn't been a good day so I just agreed to pay, and put it on my credit card so that I could be done with it. Reply to this

I have never had excess baggage. In fact, I never even use all my allowance.

I have had things confiscated though, from my hand luggage by security people at airports. A bottle of perfume and a knife so far. Reply to this

I've only been charged 3 times...this is not bad considering I'm always way to high. The last time, Shanghai-Bangkok, 65kg...and they charged me 55usd, did pay as I did bring it down quite solid. Reply to this

US$200 for a flight from Manila to Sydney. Didn't have the heart to chastise my nephew who was migrating to OZ for bringing many of his fav hardbound books and CDs. Reply to this

There has to be some justice to...to the question...when is the airline turn to pay, here is an example you may want to use in future.

One of our bags from Kathmandu to Bangkok did not made it this Friday night. Fill the usual report and went back home as it was quite late. Did call the airline at 11am the day after...answer...we don't yet sir, we need to wait for arrival of the 8pm flight to give you an answer.

Than tell them they are nice, but this means I would not have my bags for 24 hours as it would not reach my home straight on...I was than due compensation. Well, the lady had to speak to her supervisor, and they authorize 2500 bahts (around 50euros).

Went on a toileteries shopping spree for the amount early afternoon. 4pm, call to confirm they had my bag, which would be delivered at 7pm. Somebody took my bag by mistake. Mari asked me how is this possible...I told her, don't laugh, some people do not have eyes to check their own bag.

Was this morning at the airport for my next flight, went to claim the money. What is interesting is I provided them with a sales receipt of 2425bahts, they still gave me 2500bahts.

So fellow travellers, here is a lesson to retain. You are due compensation if your bag is more than 24 hours delay, but an airline will authorize it before if they tell you they are going to have an answer...only after these 24 hours!

Hope this help others,

Peter

When I'm going home to the Australia (I was in Tokyo that time), I've payed 20000 Yen for my excess baggage. But it's okay because I have many things to bring and to give to my parents and relatives. Reply to this
