Adventurous?

Hi, am studying for my masters in adventure tourism mangement, i need to find out how todays travellers have found their experience within the context of adventure. With such publications as the Lonely Planet and travel package dominating the market do you think its possible to be a true 'adventurous' lone traveller or has it become institutionalised and contrived?

All your thoughts will be of great help... ...so get replying! LOL. Reply to this

travel is still a relatively uninstitutionalized thing. Western Europe pretty much has become completely tourist friendly so that's not really "adventurous". The real adventure lies in two parts:

1) the basic skiing hiking kyaking very visceral adventure that people want to take pictures of themselves doing so that they can show off to their friends later

2) the more introverted adventure of going to a foreign place (a lot of the time solo) and trying to really get to know it without the heavy aid of a guide, russia is a good example of a place where this is still do-able because it's not really a tourist destination and still relatively few people speak english, eastern europe, asia, and also places like south america are all good places where people can have this kind.
