Almost 90,000 bags are lost every day in the world by airlines. Have your bags every been amongst the 90,000? If so, where were you flying to and from? With which airline?

"Almost 90,000 bags are lost every day in the world and in Europe this represents 10,000 mislaid bags per day," Tajani told reporters. "The figures are incredibly serious."

Three times in the US.

San Diego - Kalamazoo, Michigan the night before business meetings the next day. I looked great in gym pants and tee shirt as nothing was open that late or early the next morning. Fortunately, it was the central HQ for a company I was already employed.

San Diego - Evansville, Indiana on a trip to visit family so no big deal.

San Diego - Sarasota, Florida a day and half prior to a job interview. Fortunatley the bag arrived at my airport the next evening and saved me from buying a new suit, shoes, etc.

Each time was a different airline (United, American, and Continental) so at least they all seem to be consistently bad! Reply to this

My luggage was lost once when I was flying to Estonia from Germany. I had a layover in Poland. I forget which airline. A Polish one probably, since that is where the layover was.

I travel very light, so before the liquid on board rules I used to take all my luggage on as hand luggage, to avoid having it lost by the airlines.

Yes - British Airways when I first left to go on my long long travel trip. I got to Mumbai to find my luggage had not been put on the plane. Not the greatest start to the trip! I ended up having a hysterical fit in the airport the next day because I was taking a domestic flight down to Kerala and the form I'd filled in (Indian-chaos style) didn't have enough room for the address of where I was going to be. After huge shenanigans I finally got it back but when I did I didn't even recognise it, ha ha! the airport official was pointing to a group of bags on the floor which had been taken off the conveyor belt, saying these were the ones that had been sent on from the original flight and he was pointing at mine, saying 'here madam, your bag'. I looked at it and said, 'no, no, that's not mine!' as it was the wrong colour. Then he said 'but it's got your name on it'. So it had. because I'd only just bought the backpack I couldn't really remember what it looked like and I'd even put a stripy band round it so I'd recognise it! Don't think he knew what to make of me... Reply to this

LOL Debbie :D

When we arrived in Delhi, India last December our bags were missing too. They were not on the converyer belt for our flight. We asked several people and finally our bags appeared from I dont know where. It took around an hour of asking and being sent here and there before somebody told us where to stand and that if we stand there our bags will be brought to us. And they were too, after around a half hour. Reply to this

Are we sure we speak of the same thing. Very few bags to disappeared for ever...most of them just take the wrong flights! I've learn that sometimes, late luggage can mean great advantages.

If your bag is on the next flight, few hours after you...they will deliver it to your hotel/home...and this means, I don't have to carry it...which is not a bad thing...

At the end of the day, it's like plane delays...we have to take it if we fly a lot! Reply to this

That is what I thought, when I arrived in Estonia, and my bag didnt. :D Best of all, I wanted to go out all night, instead of getting some place to stay for that night, and I didnt have to lug the bag around with me. They delivered it the next afternoon.

10,000 bags per day going missing in the EU alone has to be due to carelessness, surely.

Why do I have all the luck? More than 3,000,000 miles flying and approximately 25 cruises and I still don't have a lost bag. What am I doing wrong? Do you realize I can't even post bad remarks about the airlines and cruise ships because of the way they treat my baggage? Reply to this

That is very good luck, Bill. I used to just carry hand luggage only most of the time, until the liquids rules came along. Then soon after I started checking in luggage, one of the airlines lost my bag. They did manage to deliver it to where I was staying the next day though. And looking on the bright side, it meant I didnt have to carry it from the airport myself. 😉 Reply to this

Actually, the EU has a number of rules, including a hotline phone number for arbiter support in case of conflicts.
If you can prove a damage resulting from a delay, the airline is responsible (e.g. in cases where you get a rental car, but can't leave without your luggage because it contains camping or climbing gear).

Unfortunately it's up to you to argue. A bit of information and a link to current EU regulation can be found at
