For some, vacation is all about the joy of doing almost nothing. Laying in a hammock, having tropical libations brought to them, the only physical activity of the day the act of lathering on copious amounts of spf 50 sunscreen.

For others, vacation is an opportunity to try new things. Whether it’s a different type of food, a new culture, or a brand-new and exhilarating activity.

If you fall into the latter category, skydiving offers you the opportunity to get your fill of exhilaration and excitement. Perhaps you’ve dreamed of skydiving for years -- but you never find the time during your day-to-day life. Vacation provides the ideal time and place to make the leap. Reply to this

I like to see skydiving but I don't think I am such a brave person for skydiving. I've read a lot of articles and facts about skydiving. <snip>

Hello! Having read your posts here, I have made sure that I really wish to try skydiving as well. To tell the truth, I have always been interested in the tandem skydiving, but, as far as I have never done that before, there is one question I'm concerned with: is it better to skydive alone or in a tandem for the first time? Which option is safer and more preferable? Which of them is easier for a newby? I have already asked a couple of instructors about that, but I've also got different answers. One instrustor told me that it is better to learn the basics of skydiving alone and to train a bit before making it in a tandem, while another instructor recommended me to make the first jump with an experienced skydiver, who will help me if something extraordinary happens. So, I'm puzzled now and I really need your answer! Thanks a lot! Reply to this

Hi Nataly,
If you just want a 'taster' for now, go for a tandem skydive.

With regards to taking it further, Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) you start higher, with an instructor holding on each side - three of you exiting the plane together, and you have a radio receiver on your gear. When you deploy your parachute, someone gives you instructions from the ground through the radio.
With AFF you get used to other people being close by in the air.

The other method is Static Line. You start from a lower height, and your parachute deploys automatically on exit. You get instructions from the ground also.

Main thing is to go with a reputable club. I learnt through AFF, and would recommend AFF.

Enjoy! Reply to this

Hi Nataly,
I first started my skydive with a tandem. And I agree with Jo, you must go with a reputable club.
I was nervous before the first jump from the plane; don't worry, that is common. But with the thought that an experienced trainer is just behind you, gives a whole lot of confidence.
I was worried about the free fall before the first jump. But now I look forward to that. Believe me, you won't feel you are falling; I feel that I am floating. I find that is the best part during skydive!
So go for it, you will get hooked to it; only thing is bit expensive for 10 minutes in the air; but it's a great feeling!
Let us know once you have your first jump!!!

Can you go straighth to Basejump and skip skydiving? Reply to this

6 years ago, May 25th 2017 No: 98 Msg: #201091
In response to: Msg #201087 You sure can....basejumping is less turbulent than skydiving, especially if you are jumping from 15,000- 22,000 ft with a free fall. Base jumping is usually from a cliff or high altitude station. The chute opens with your initial run. You practically don't need any training, just a little bit of landing skill. Suggest go tandem if you are doing first time. Reply to this

I'm really afraid of heights but this skydiving thing? I guess this is the solution to overcome my fear! What do you think? Should I try it? I really enjoy watching people skydiving. 😊 Reply to this

In response to: Msg #201105 Alyson, fear of height is normal, many of us have it. I also had the terrible fear when I did my first jump. But once I did the first one, I got hooked to it...I wanted to do it over and over again.

Few tips may help. 1) do it tandem. 2) If you have height problem, perhaps don't jump 15000 ft free fall first time. Go the 5000 ft jump where they open the chute up outside the plane and you jump. Although personally, I enjoy the free fall most. 3) You may try paragliding one first...lower height, tandem and no free fall...just glide in the air. Check my blogs here (915374, 916143),...some descriptions are there.

Last, check the reputation of a company you are skydiving with. It's important. Another think: Just before the jump, whether skydiving or paragliding, you will see far below, but try not to think about it. Brush away the thought from your mind at that moment. Then jump.

Hope this helps.
