Some questions about travelling europe in vans
15 years ago, September 14th 2008 No: 1 Msg: #48696
Hi all

Could someone give me some information on travelling around Europe in a van. There are 4 of us so we are thinking about getting 2 vans (2 in each). Would this be cheaper than doing a busabout etc? Where would be the best place to pick up a cheap van?Any other tips or things we should know/do?? We\'re planning on doing it around March/April 2009.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Hello Alistair 😊

I am digging up some threads about travelling in Europe by campervan for you.
Here is the first.
Realisic budget for travelling in Europe by campervan

UMM! It has no replies either. Looks like it is up to you to go on the trip and then provide us with information. I will see if I can find a more active thread.

excellent, thats so much help.Thankyou very much for that.Just another quick question. Were planing on travelling around for approx 2 months, but want to get in a fair amount of Europe. Not so much eastern europe but would love to finish near croatia. Would this mean we would be in a mad rush or would it be ok?? Reply to this

I got accross Europe from England to Greece by hitch hiking one year in 3 months. I didnt go in a straight line and stopped for days and even a week in some places. So I think it is possible for you to get accross Europe in 2 months without too much rushing.

hi i have drivin Europe by car so might be of some help. we drove by car in 2006 and 2007 but for 2008 we were looking at buying a second hand van for 2. we checked prices of vans and the cost of what the fuel would be and also the prices of using the campsites. we worked out that we didnt save any money by buying a van. so we are going to use the car again next year. we found that the hotels were cheaper in eastern europe you can find a room for £20 a night for 2. not sure what europe countries you are planning to go. we have also stayed campsites germany austria and czeck republic. so if i can be of any help just ask i will do my best to help Reply to this

Follow those threads, they contain some useful information. But whatsoever, 2 people in a van? A van is bigger and more people would fit in. Reply to this

The entry from below was from our blog in 2007. We drove UK for 18 days. We got a really good deal from escape motorhomes. The day we picked up our camper, there was 4 people(3 girls 1 guy) picking up a 5 berth camper(gives you a little m ore room !) They were driving around, following the NZ rugby/world cup games. They were planning to drive around france, come back for the Cardiff and Edinburgh games, then back to France and Germany if they had time. Escape is based near Gatwick airport. It is also not far from Dover, so makes a trip to the Continent easy.

"For anyone else planning to hire a camper, shop around. I found that some of the companies that have easily googled web-sites, are very expensive. When I told a friend of mine what we were getting quoted, he told me it was a lot more than they had paid. I ended up searching on the BT(phone-book) web-site and finding the names of camper hire companies in the London area, then googling their names. The 2nd one that I found that way was half the price that I had been quoted elsewhere. (escape motorhomes !) " Reply to this
