Please help! In an attempt to have as much freedom as possible, and hopefully get more for our money, my boyfriend and I are contemplating touring Europe in a campervan next june, for as long as our money lasts. Can anyone who has done this before, advise us on whether this would be a good option? Or perhaps give some tips on how to do it right? thanks 😊
Reply to this We did about 10 years ago, so I'm not sure how useful any info we can pas son will be. We were living in the UK at the time and owned a camper there, and taking it across to Europe was very easy. Ours was of course right hand drive, seeings as we got it in the UK, but you might be better off with a left hand drive if you are spending most of your time on the continent. Are you buying or hiring? Hiring is big over here (NZ), but I'm not sure about Europe. We found taking a camper great, we could see more and get to more places than if we'd taken a bus or train. Of course, the public transport network around Europe is good enough to go that way, but...I guess it all depends on what you want to see and do. And your budget! I'd certainly recommend it, based on our experiences 10 years ago. And if I was going again right now, I'd do the same thing. Get a van and see where the road takes me. If you want anything else, let us know!
Reply to this Awesome - thanks very much for your help! We plan to buy a van once we get there - seems to be a more viable option than hiring one! how long did you spend travelling in your van?
Reply to this We were only there for about 2 months, not long enough by far, and so concentrated on Eastern Europe where neither of us had been before. But we were in the UK for a while and so owned the van for about 3 years. We saw heaps of the UK in it, especially Scotland as we were living in Glasgow then.
