Does anyone have any suggestions for flying into Mexico City and then immediatly to Central America and working your way back up to Mexico City? We only have about 3 weeks and would like to see as much of Central America as possible
Reply to this If you only have three weeks I'd stick to Mexico and Guatemala. We're currently attempting to get to Mexico from Panama in 9 weeks, and already we're finding there's barely enough time to see even the highlights of Central America.

I did exactly that with just a little more time than you have. A month. I landed in Mexico city and stayed there for a couple of nights. Then I hopped from town to town staying in each for a couple of nights until I got to Guatamala. At the time Guatamala was rough to travel in because there were a lot of knife robberies. I decided to avoid the risk and headed up the mountains to an Indian village which was safe in Guatamala. I stayed there for around 5 days and took Spanish lessons which were taught by the Indians. After that I made my way back North and stopped on a beach for a few days on the West coast.
I cant remember most of the towns in Mexico I stayed in. One that does come to mind is San Cristobal de las Casas. I recommend it.
As Barry suggests, you dont have time to travel extensively in Central America. Just choose a spot in Guatamala and go there for a few days.
