Right then. Lets try this travelblog lark! If it all goes wrong, blame it on Bouffant... it was his idea. Sorry if I ramble a bit. The idea I suppose is that it serves as a travel journal rather than just an email to update you on the highlights. Therefore, feel free to ignore it and I´ll just bore you when I get back. That said, it tells me when people log on so if you want to boost my ego, just click on the link and then shut it down. I won´t know any different..... Been in Lima for two-ish days now. The flight to Madrid was a shocker! Usually I put on a brave face with turbulence as Sophie doesn´t really like flying. However, I´m sure I was visibly terrified. I used to love ... read more

Well we are here! We got to hostel Malka at 2:30 this morning and got up bright and early (uh ten is bright and early right!) After some initial frustrations and thinking there was nothing to do in Lima (oh how wrong we were) we eventually got some help and found our way to a pyramid where ancient indan tombs had been excavated and were on display in a museum! We ate a new dish full of fun! Fun being raw fish in a lemon marinade which was delicious and much more appealing than it sounds. Got lost for the first of what is sure to be many times and found ourselves again. Just a note honking is kind of like music. It's a dialect of its own! Anyways more on Lima later. Enjoy the pictures! ... read more

Hey duderinos! I have been thinking that I want to share something with you all. I felt inspired a few weeks ago when I visited Huaraz. If you have seen the pictures of the lagoon I have posted on here, you will surely notice that it is absolutely unbelievable. While I was there marveling at this beautiful, natural lagoon, I looked around me. The 5 or 6 others that I was with were completely quiet and resting themselves. A few of them were even sleeping. What was interesting was that everything surrounding the lagoon was rock. Large, sharp rocks. So, I had an epiphany. Even in the stone, people were sleeping and resting. When one thinks of rest, they think of a warm, soft place, right? Well, we were exhausted because we had walked a ton ... read more

Right, finished with America and being tourists, now we are proper travellers! Off to South America with our first destination being Lima in Peru. In Peru they speak Spanish, do we we speak spanish? No! But you know it´ll be fine, dos cervezas por favor and all that, it´ll be like being in mainland Spain won´t it? No! Luckily for us we had made friends with Mark, an aussie we had met in LA and he was staying in Lima for a while. As well as being a top bloke he also speaks near fluent spanish, result! We flew in about 10PM and he picked us up at the airport and carted us off to a hostel he had booked for us, checked in and then.......anyone want to hazard a guess? Yes we went for a ... read more

Buenos dias a todos! This past weekend, I went to "La Selva". The translation is "jungle" or "forrest", I think. I didn't refer to any sort of dictionary so feel free to correct me if I am wrong. At any rate, it was something else. It was probably the most dangerous thing that I have ever done. It is important though to add that I didn't enter the DEEP jungle. I guess you could say that I was in the "suburbs" of the jungle. The outer suburbs. The suburbs of the suburbs. Ok, back to the danger. It was very dangerous. I almost died or was seriously injured a handful of times. You see, it is very humid in the jungle, and all of the rocks are slippery. Also, if you slip or fall on the ... read more

Most people say that Lima is a dangerous place and to avoid it, today we found out that it is dangerous place but I still wouldnt say avoid it as there are some fascinating places to see. I managed to hook up with a group of 6 solo travellers and we went to find the smallest church in the world, we wandered off the tourist track slightly and one of our group had her camera stolen out of her hand by 2 guys. We spent a while in the police station and they were very slow but escorted us to the church we wanted to see but it was closed!! Despite that the last 2 days we have seen a lot, in Lima central we saw some catacombs where bones and skulls were arranged in pretty ... read more

Welcome to Peru!!!! We landed in Lima last Tuesday and we must admit it was abit of a cultureshock!! The city is covered under a layer of smog/fog for 9mths of the year. We were picked up by 2 guys from the hostel and put in a knackered old taxi with one who had a liking for harry potter!! They drove us to the hostel like maniacs. Everyone hear drives with one hand on the wheel and one on the horn!! they just swerve and beep and drive manically and when there are no seat belts it is abit of a roller coaster!!! We got told a really welcoming and comforting story on the drive. It was dark and we were stuck in a queue- tired and newly arrived the driver turns to us and says ... read more

Para todo el viaje habra una explicacion breve en Español y seguida otra en Ingles. For the whole trip there will be a first explanation in Spanish and another one in English.

Hello Everyone, I am writing from a computer in our hostal in Lima, Hostal Iquique. I took the laundry to a lavanderia earlier today, rode a few buses with a man named Fernando (who has a brown husky with two different colored eyes), and now I'm going to try to figure out how to post pictures for everyone to see! Attached, see some pictures from our initial stay in Cusco, where we studies Spanish and toured the nearby Incan ruins. Love, Caitlin... read more
