Happy Holidays Everyone! We definitely miss the holiday feeling down here in Lima. It is just not the same as the weather gets warmer and warmer. Everyday starts off with low clouds followed by clearing around noon. The average daytime temperature along the coast (when the Sun comes out) is about 70-75 degrees. After thinking about it for a long time, Mom and Dad Bergeron decided to come down to Peru for a week for a quick visit. We spent the first few days in Miraflores and Lima getting acquainted with the surroundings, eating great seafood, visiting museums, and sampling a few Peruvian beverages. Dad was very interested in trying the cuy (guinea pig) but after hearing that it had too many small bones, he decided to pass. They were very interested about seeing the Andes ... read more

Day 6 Friday 30th November 2007 Lima, Peru. I arrived in Lima at 08:25 following a long sleepless flight. It was a free for all outside the airport as I was mobbed by the dozens of taxi drivers. I negotiated a price of 40 Soles (£6.50) for the 45 minute journey to the hotel Girasoles which is located in the Miraflores district of Lima. The journey in the 1973 Datsun Sunny was fun to say the least, it was rush hour and there are no rules in terms of lane discipline etc.. Much of Lima is like a run down Spanish city and the place is shrouded in low cloud and fog for much of the year but apparently it does lift in January for 8 weeks or so. Karl at Travel Nation had booked an ... read more

Greetings All! Well a lot can happen in a week, especially when you dont try. Since we last spoke I have become a Llama farmer and married a Peruanan gipsy woman called Mariella. Clearly I am lying......I am working on the Llama farmer bit. Last week Chris and I actually met our first English amigos out here, Jess has been out here for two years and speaks really good Spanish...I found this out when the school mistakenly put her in my class. Her and the teacher were basically conversing in Spanish...it went a tad over my head to be fair. On Wednesday we had another cooking class and this time there were seven of us! It was actually a really good laugh and a few of us went out for beers to wait for it....´The Old ... read more

Hola everyone, Firstly, for those of you who view Dicki´s blog and find the ones I post are a repeat I apologise, it´s just easier to snag everyone in address books and Facebooks and post to all! I´ve finally made it to a computer after being here 2 days. The main reason I haven´t got on one yet is due to the fact I would end up ranting on about some Americans who wound me up something proper at JFK....I won´t go into it as no-one wants to read about that. My flight was delayed 4 hours at said airport incidentally which wasn´t much fun but I finally arrived Sat am at about 8am. It would have been earlier if it wasn´t for the fact that my bag was THE VERY LAST one off the plane ... read more

Lima is a great city as far as I can tell. I spent my first day here riding around with my friend Sylvia. She showed me all the different districts of lima it was Crazy.. From good areas to bad in just a few blocks.. she kept saying "this area is dodgy stay out of here". I found a real nice hostel to stay at just outside of downtown. Lima sits on a Cliff over looking the ocean and the views are spectacular. Yesterday while we were walking around town I saw a Museum which focused on electrical history (random I know) but there was a big Pelton Wheel labeled in spanish. ... read more

14th Nov 2006 - 20th Nov 2006 Lima to Nasca I spent the first 5 nights in Lima and saw most of the city. I even took a bus to the top of a nearby mountain with a view over the whole city. The smog prevented a perfect view but it was still great. It was very high. the drive up was a bit scary though. the road was only wide enough for one car or bus and there were little or no barriers. on top of that there was a shear drop on one side of the road. and i was sitting on that side. good view though. i met my group on saturday and we went for an a cheap dinner together. On the sunday, we moved onto Paracas and got a trip over ... read more
