My bad luck with transport continued I managed to miss my bus from Lima to Nazca and ended up getting the late service which arrived into Nazca about 2am. A 7 hour journey, pritty nice bus though, plenty of leg room. NAZCA, Peru *Height Above Sea Level : 592m *Miles From Luton : 6379 Checked into the Hotel Estrella del Sur and arranged a flight over the Nazca Lines in the morning, well a few hours later. The cost $55, it seems in Peru that US Dollars are taken everywhere and preferred if your spending big bucks! 7:30am its baking hot I'm knackered and being driven by the hotel owner to the Nazca Airport. The flight is at 10:30am, I try a full American style breakfast to sort myself out - which I'll later regret. The ... read more

Nazca, what a place. Elisa and I arrived early afternoon from Huacachina and took the first persons advice after exiting the bus. Not something I normally do but we were in a hurry to get this over with and move on to Arequipa. The woman we met came with a free taxi ride and she assisted us in purchasing a night bus ticket to Arequipa before heading off to the airport. The people in Nazca must be used to such rapid travellers cause the bus station happily secured our large packs in the back office untill our return at 10:30 that evening. The airport, and our new guide's office, wasn't that far from the bus station and she ran us through her usual routine. We were given two options; Economic - a large craft that ... read more

Sunday 6 November Hi Folks, Think I got my diary dates wrong for Friday and Saturday - sorry!! Anyway - here goes with the rest of my great weekend!! On Sunday morning I woke up early after a great night´s sleep to have breakfast with the others on the trip and then head off to see the amazing Nazca lines. Nazca appears to be spelt interchangeably in Peru with a ´Z´ and a ´C´. Not quite sure which is correct. Anyway, the Nazcas are an historic Peruvian culture which predated the Incas. They drew some amazing pictures in the desert area around Nazca which were only discovered in the current century. They are only visible from the air, and the Peruvians were totally unaware that they existed, so much so that they built the Pan American ... read more

Note for the ignorants:The Nazca lines are drawings on the ground made by some ancient civilisation. They are best viewed from the sky. We managed to get a plane tour for 35$ and it was definetly worth it. Not because of the lines, but beacause of the flight. The pilot seemed to be more worried about us seeing the drawings than actually keeping us alive. He spent most of the time flying the plane almost upside down with one hand and pointing at the lines with the other. However we survived and our stomachs did too (only just). Pictures should be available soon!! The computer keeps crashing everytime I try to put them online. Avis aux centraliens qui ne comprennent pas l´anglais: Pierre (Nugs) fait aussi un site, donc demandez lui le lien s´il vous a ... read more

Our Huacachina hostel owner turned out to be a regular tourist baron. He had fingers in all sorts of pies and was able to arrange a trip straight to Nazca, another 2hours south by bus, with a night in a hostel followed by a light aircraft flight over the ´Nazca Lines´. There are all sorts of theories about who and why these lines were created, and we were shown a video before our flight (twice!) about some of them. The main idea, was that these huge images of a Condor, a Monkey, a Humming bird and various others etched into the landscape were designed and made by the Incas, and were intended to be ´processed´around by the people playing instruments and singing to worship their gods. We had been warned not to eat breakfast before the ... read more

Nazca 17.10.2005 Version francaise plus loin.. Traseul Lima-Nazca-Arequipa Nazca ora 18:33 (Franta +7h, Romania +8h) dar cred c-ati invatat deja. Ola! ¿que tal? (Salut! Ce mai faci?) Sa stiti ca am primit si citit toate mesajele voastre. Multumim pentru incurajari si "descurajari" sugestii si viitoare reclamatii. :o)) Sutem la sarsitul sederii noastre in Nazca. Gazda s-a ocupt de toate rezervar... read more

Hello from Nazca! We arrived october 5th after a long bus ride from lima. Ok not that long, but they played one spanish-dubed action movie after another the whole way and that made it seem pretty long. Interesting scenery though: one side desert, one side ocean, with the occasional chicken farm. We stayed at the Yamaya hotel (calle Callao), which is new and not in the lonely planet. It was pretty good too until last night when a night club started up next door. (ask mike about it sometime...) It seems like the biggest industry here is selling plane rides over the nazca lines to tourists. We (mainly mike) had to endure some pretty hard sales pitches from someone connected to the hotel. The town is small and pretty lively. It´s in a pretty big desert ... read more

After a week in Cuzco it was time to make a decision, and with no word from our travel guru's in Bolivia we decided to head over to Nazca and then down to Arequipa (the white city), before begining our mamouth jorney back to Santiago. The bus to Nazca was reasonably comfortable except that we were thrown from side to side as the bus snaked its way (sometimes off road) through the Ande's. We arrived in Nazca at 5.30am where we were bundled into a taxi and taken to the airport. The flight was in a small five seater plane, and took us over the world famous 'Nazca Lines'. As the name may suggest they are not infact all lines, but most are strange child like drawings, so large they can only be seen from the ... read more

Yo yo yáll, this is Rich. well, i took my beloved for ANOTHER birthday extravaganza (count them, that´s TWO presents! and a card! that´s more than ive ever got anyone else ever! its probably more than everyone else combined too). this time was a fantastically expensive (about 30 quid)flight over the nazca lines in a cessna. how brilliant am i? im surprised you have to ask, but basically im fantastic, and by far the best boyfriend anyone could ever have. The lines are cool. Everybody knows about the figures, but the lines are probably more interesting, mainly because nobody knows what they{re really for. Despite several unlikely theories about pre-olympic running tracks and alien landing sites (i mean honestly, does that sound likely? idiots, idiots everywhere...) they probably relate to religious stuff and sources of sub-terranean ... read more
