Today we got a chance to walk around the city a little bit. I dont have my camera with me right now so I cant post the pictures but I will do my best to do so as soon as possible. We woke up pretty early.. (like 8?... 9 EST) and went into the center of the city known as La Plaza de Armas.. its so incredible. We took a tour of this church that was just so incredible.. all the walls were plastered with gold and the acoustics in the church were crazy. We weren´t allowed to take any pictures though so sorry. :( Then we went for a coffee at a little shop that overlooked the city.. and when I say we I am talking about my roomie and I. Thhheeennn we went everywhere ... read more

Hey everyone! I just arrived today in Cusco.. at like 7 in the morning. It was such a long day and a long flight. I had a layover in the Lima Airprot (which is the capital city) and I was lucky enough to have a professor from that area that has a brother who is still living in Lima. He picked me up at the airport (after much anxiety over not being able to find him for a little while) and we went all around the city. He took me to the most beautiful buildings and showed me where the president lives. (which was dark and we assumed that he was asleep ;) ) I also got to see the beach! AANNNDDD had my first Pisco Sour, which is like this liquor made from grapes and ... read more

Well, we left off at the end of the Inka Trail (and our crazy train ride), but this wasn´t the end of the day . . . After a ride back to Cuzco in our minivan (with beer in hand and eighties music playing), we saw that Cuzco was ready to play. The streets were filled with families, people in traditional dress, people in costume and all sorts of bits and bobs. No matter how tired we were, this was not a time to go to bed . . . (ahhh, an actual bed, our own shower . . .) So, after a short breather, we all re-grouped and headed out for a celebratory meal. The meal itself was really lovely, and it started with the traditional pisco sour. This is really yummy, and really alcoholic! ... read more

After a couple of days hanging out in Lima and enjoying a great hotel and comfy bed we were off on the road again with a couple of free camps on the beach (and toasting marshmallows on the fire- yum!) before our next destination of Paracas. We had a full on day with a boat trip to the Ballestas Islands which has the largest colony of sea lions in the world, a few penguins dotted about and bucket loads of bird poo, which they collect and sell for loads of cash- nice work! We then went to a Pisco brewery- the national drink, which is v strong as we found out later, before arriving at the desert . We were driven around in dune buggies by a crazy man as I hung on for my life, ... read more

Hello everyone, South America is going so well. We arrived in Chile and made our wat to Peru. Lima was suprisingly built up but then we quickly made it to Cusco which was so beautiful. It reminds me of a little spanish town. When we arrived there was a big festival on which was very busy and we got stared at as blonde people stand out like a sore thumb! The altitude affected us quite badly at first, we found it hard to even go upstairs! We were worried about doing the inca. However, after 24 hours we seemed to adapt to the altitude so we were relieved! We spent two nights there before starting the inca trail. Were were advissed to go to a local market which we did and it was lovely to see people ... read more

After the jungle, San Pedro, and Worlds Most Dangerous Road, time was running out, we needed to get to Cusco in Peru for the festival of the Sun (Intiraymi), which is there Winter Solstice. But we still had so much to do. So it was a quick dash to Copacabana to visit Lake Titicaca, the worlds highest navigable lake. To get to Lake Titicaca we went on a ferry.... but not the conventional kind that you might think. we demounted the bus and took a boat across whilst our coach literally rode across on a plank of wood with a small motor.... only in South America. From Copacabana we took a boat to Isla Del Sol (Island of the Sun). We had limited time there so we were all fully prepared and motivated that as soon ... read more

A 5 hour flight gets you from South America´s lush green Atlantic coast across the Andes to it´s dry dessert-like Pacific one. I guess the Andes stop the clouds from coming over and sending all the water back into the Amazon, and leaving little for the sprawling, busy, dusty likes of Lima. Walking out of the airport we got an immediate sense that we were someplace very different than either of us had ever been . Getting ready to leave two weeks later I´d say that our initial sense was accurate, erring only in it´s underestimation of what we were about to experience. Peru has been amazing, I think it´s safe to say it´s the highlight so far. And although it´s the country we´d probably least likely return to, it´s definitely the one to which we´re ... read more

Well we were in Cusco for 3 days before Machu Picchu and for one day after, but theu were days well spent. On the first day most of the group did a scavenger hunt that was set up for us by Jen and Steph to help us get to know the city better, which consisted of an amazing rap video by one group. That night we got to have Peruvian Chinese food which is similar to that back at home but not the same, and then got ready to go to a discoteca. Preparing to the discoteca started to get crazy after a game of zip, zip, boing got out of control and the night ended with Mike getting lost and having a night to remember. The second day everyone went on a hike to ruins ... read more

Ok, so now arrived. Flights were ok, if rather long. There were thunder storms in miami so my flight left 2 hours late. That together with loosing my bags and having to get up at 3 left me with only 1 bad hours sleep. Still ive made up for that sleep last night, even if it did mean missing out on a meal out. But i was just so so s tired. Anyway Ive got my bags back now, arrived yesterday afternoon. So I have all my stuff and are happy. We are currently staying the madventure house actually in cusco. Will be till wednesday. Cusco is really pretty and the house has the most amazing views. Ill have to see if I can add the pictures up of it at some point. Had a little ... read more
